Relegation Target

Post: # 167565Post Workerbee »

Nothing else much to do, so I thought I’d have a look at what kind of target we would need to avoid relegation. (For those of you who aren’t even thinking along such lines stop reading now - the thread title was clear enough anyway)

Since the play-offs were introduced to the Conference, the teams finishing 23rd in League 2 have got the following points (ignoring any points deductions which were handed out):

2003...48
2004...45
2005...40
2006...49
2007...46
2008...42
2009...41
2010...44
2011...47
2012...44
2013...51
2014...50
2015...41

With 21pts already in the bag, Barnet would need the following to avoid relegation in the various different scenarios:

....................Target....Needed....W-D-L
Lowest............. 40.........19........5-4-19
Average.............45.........24........6-6-16
Best To Aim For...50.........29........7-8-13
Highest.............52.........31........8-7-13

They would have to do really poorly not to reach the minimum or average targets, but if their away form doesn’t pick up they could still fail to get to 50pts or above.

Of course, it all depends as much on how the teams below them go. If the bottom 5 continue to struggle the way they have so far (only 11 wins between them to date) then any relegation worries might have evaporated long before the season ends - or at least before the final Saturday!

52 points should see us safe, we went down on 51 and would be very unlucky to happen again
