1888 was not the club's founding year. It was the year when there was a club called Barnet FC in the borough. That club went into liquidation in 1902 and that was the last of them. The current club came into being in 1912 through a merger between Barnet Alston FC and yet another club called Barnet FC ( no relation to the '1888, one) who were formerly known as Barnet Avenue. The new club was Barnet & Alston FC and they dropped the 'Alston' part of their name in 1918 to become Barnet FC which is the current club.

The Barnet FC that 'originated' in 1888 already existed as New Barnet FC but changed there name to Barnet FC that year. They moved to a new ground in Queens Road (now the site of QE boys' school) about a year later.

I long for the day we return to Alston, Alstonshire.

I know what you mean Mikel Bee. I worked in the city for over 30 years and all of that time it seemed as if I was in the middle of a building site.
