After the Flashman era I got heavily involved with the Barnet FC survival fund. Ricky made a generous donation to this. After a while he tried to take over the club. Some of us were worried that he didn't have the resources to do this and we opposed his attempted takeover. I remember him at one of the creditors meetings standing at the back of the hall with his mobile phone trying to contact his rich backer without success. Eventually David Buchler, who was an insolvency expert, bought the club, sorted out the debts and after a while sold it to Tony Kleanthous. Ricky wrote a book called "one goal one horse" in which he said that he regretted falling out with me and Steve Percy.

That wasn't Buchler, it was Stephen Glynne who masterminded our survival bid @ Nottingham in the summer of 1993 who went on holiday - Buchler came in between Chelsea games in early 1994.

You're right of course - memory playing tricks with me after all these years. Not sure what happened to Glynne but we should all be grateful to him for his role in saving the club. For those talking about letting the current club die because of our present predicament, be careful what you wish for. I remember the feeling of emptiness and desolation that I, and I'm sure others, felt when it genuinely seemed like we would no longer have a club to support for the following season.

Rob Johnson ex Luton- supposedly had a plastic kneecaps due to numerous operations on it.left for Hitchin a few weeks into that season.
