FA TROPHY
Re: FA TROPHY
A massive incentive of £6000 to the winners of 1st round ties.
Even the eventual winners only pick up £60000, runners up £30000.
If we win on Sunday in the FA Cup we get £54000 plus £12500 from BBC.
Now you know why so many clubs don't take the FA Trophy seriously.

John Still said he would play the best team possible in all competitions except for the Middlesex Cup.
I hope he does. It is a realistic chance to get to Wembley. The last time we played there was in May 1972 - the month before I was born!

Re: FA TROPHY
To be fair the potential £67,500 is due to a massive increase this season plus being the only tie to guarantee a non-league team in Round 3 = BBC coverage, and also we've done bloody well to get this far as well.hoppy wrote:A massive incentive of £6000 to the winners of 1st round ties.

I'd say £6000 for first round of FA Trophy is £5000 more than I expected!
Re: FA TROPHY
When you also consider that the FA Trophy gate monies probably get split between the two clubs, the £6k prize money only just plugs the difference. We wouldn't make money even if we go through.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Re: FA TROPHY
At the end of the day the FA Trophy is about glory and not about money. One of my biggest ever disappointments as a Bees fan was losing at home to Fareham Town in FAT QF back in the Eighties when we had a great side. I was at Northwich Vics too when we lost in the QF up there although I didn’t expect us to win that day.
I would comfortably swap promotion for a Wembley win. We’ve been close to getting there a few times (Swindon/Colchester away spring to mind) but 1972 is way too long ago. I didn’t see my first game until 1977 so for me it has to be Wembley. Don’t mind how so I get that if we focus on the league we may get there via the play-offs, but I for one will be rooting for us in the FAT.

Re: FA TROPHY
Back in 1970 we played Bath City away in the 1st round of the Trophy. At half time we were 3-0 down. We went on to win 4-3 with a fabulous hat trick from Colin Powell and the other goal from Les Eason. That second half was the best 45 minutes of watching Barnet ever!!

Though to be fair we did have a strong team out against Wembley, though I think that was due to JS wanting to give them players game time and fitness.hendon4bee wrote:John Still said he would play the best team possible in all competitions except for the Middlesex Cup.

Happy with that. Would like us to give this cup a real go. As the season doesn't look like we will be leaving non league soon!

Re: FA TROPHY
Interesting stat on twitter from @Alan_Alger_ on this..........
The last 52 teams to finish in the Play-Off or Title positions in the National League/Conference over the last decade - 32 were out (of the FA Trophy) in 1st or 2nd Round.
I guess how seriously as a fan you want to take this competition in part depends on how optimistic you are we will get in the top 7. Personally I think we can and we will so no thanks to the FA Trophy. For fringe player run outs only.

Having said that Cambridge, Newport (I think) and Grimsby have in recent years got to the Trophy and play off final in same season.Guiseleybee wrote:Interesting stat on twitter from @Alan_Alger_ on this..........

Re: FA TROPHY
Meh! Another home tie. Looking at the NLS table, it's so congested in the top half. I'm sure they'll present a tough challenge and hope there's no repeat of Concord Rangers!
Re: FA TROPHY
I remember going to the FAT is round match v Hayes & Yeading 4 or 5 seasons ago, the match was so dull, no atmosphere, nobody cared. I couldn't face the 2nd round match v Grimsby and wasn't sorry when they knocked us out.
I wonder whether we and Bath will agree to extra time on the day, if required?

Re: FA TROPHY
You would hope the 2 clubs would agree to that, having a slight fixture back log you would think JS would not want another game and being close to xmas I would guess Bath could do with out the hassle of a home game and having to pay out for stewards, catering staff etc?becbee wrote:I remember going to the FAT is round match v Hayes & Yeading 4 or 5 seasons ago, the match was so dull, no atmosphere, nobody cared.
