Reckless Xmas Goody Corner 2018

Its getting closer..............
Remember years ago and all those really scummy things that were only available at Christmas time?
The Reckless Family Goody Corner was started by my Dad when I was a kiddie. There were Satsuma Oranges, Mixed Nuts, Eat Me Dates and Chocs but we were not allowed to touch anything until Christmas Eve. I have keep the tradition going reserving a space on a worktop - although the bits are kept in the sideboard for a while yet to resist temptation. Both the mini Reckless' at 29 and 25 have flown the nest now and will be starting their own Goody Corners I suspect but they still raid ours!

Now, nothing posh is required you understand as that spoils it - no Hampers from M&S or Harrods and Fortnam & Mason gift boxes just stuff you can scoff and pig out on and not worry about waistlines, fillings or cholesterol for a week or two.
I am hoping of course my dear friend Gordon Marshall will be dishing out the boxes of Newberry Crystallised Fruits as always.

The 2018 version was started today and currently boosts:

SALTED CASHEWS
"HUGE" TOBELERONE
TIN OF QUALITY STREET - these were called "Not Enfield chocs in the 1980's"
FOUR PACK FRYS CHOCOLATE CREAM
BOTTLE OF ADVOCAAT
AFTER EIGHT MINTS

It will expand very quickly and as always I invite suggestions and hope there will be the normal annual "Battle of the Twiglets v Cheese Balls" debate.

Happy Christmas to all Barnet fans everywhere - here's to a weight gain of 6lbs and a new year Dentist appointment.
Love Reckless

P.S Mrs Reckless has just produced a Tube of Jaffa Cakes that she bought a couple of weeks ago plus added her other pre purchases, some jars of silver skinned Pickled Onions, Pickled Red Cabbage and Piccalilli, you know the stuff you only eat for two days a year!

In my case both are perfectly acceptable...Marmite being a fine product especially with Extra Mature Cheddar in a sandwich...

Twiglets are quite violent but great with Real Ale while cheese balls have a little more Christmas about them.

York Fruits are a must have

And also a few pipes of pringles to go with the beverages.

Both cheese footballs & twiglets are foul and should be made illegal.

What about a list of stuff we wouldn’t want anywhere in the house:

Ferraro Rocher
Marzipan sweets
Sugared almonds
Cheese footballs

Marzipan is wrong. Vile stuff.
I used to work with a guy who would buy a slab of marzipan wrapped like a pat of butter and then eat the lot in slices for his lunch.

I can’t imagine much worse than that. Although I guess a slab of marzipan with a side of parma violets and a mouth full of fishermen’s friends for dessert would top it.
