Women's world cup.
Women's world cup.
The rules for men and women are the same. But if this joke which is VAR
is going to be as it has in the women s world cup then attendances will drop
Quicker than could be believed. As just watching the women s world cup is turning
Me off from watching football played under these stupid new rules. The time it takes for
Each check is embarrassing to say the least. Having one foot offside is a joke.
what ever happened to attacked given the advantage. VAR was i hoped being brought
in the help and benefit the game not to destroy it. The referee's are making a decision
Then using VAR to check in case they have made a wrong decision. Surely it was
not brought in for every decision made. Refereeing in the women s world cup is at such
A poor standard even the national league wouldn't stand for it.
But getting back to the football i will be very surprised unless a huge improvement
is made England will go out when they play the first decent side we come up against.
And were have we seen that happen before.

Re: Women's world cup.
The rules are clear and so is the technology, but I'd like to see something similar to cricket where each team has a number of appeals if they think something is a clear mistake. The game needs to move and checking every goal to make sure it's pure and error free is tedious. Let the officials do their jobs and only check if a team has a real concern that a blatant error has occurred. 1 appeal for each team in 90 mins.Roy57 wrote:The rules for men and women are the same. Re: Women's world cup.
We have had VAR for years at this level: Very Appalling Refs.
Credit to jerroll for that 1.

Re: Women's world cup.
The referee was a coward throughout. That has nothing to do with VAR.
Re: Women's world cup.
The problem with these offside calls is that it seems you only have to have one tiny part of your body in an offside position. In terms of technology applying the rules, it makes sense as it draws a line across the screen.
However, we've all got used to the idea that an offside would be when a significant amount of a player is seen to be offside by the assistant referee.
Think about the 100m in athletics. It's the chest crossing the line which counts as a finish, not your little toe.
For me, that Cameroon goal should have been let go. Not convincing enough to be called offside. Is this what we call a clear and obvious error? England's 2nd goal WAS a clear and obvious error and the offside call rightly overturned. That was the correct use of VAR.
But that doesn't excuse the reaction from their team.

Re: Women's world cup.
As with the men's world cup last summer..a system is being used which has not received sufficient trial Now we have additional new rules as described.... was always going to end in tears, especially when Barnet til apocalypse deliver their usual analysis

Re: Women's world cup.
I think it should be judged on where your feet are, not your body. Seeing as it is the feet which move you and not a shoulder, that would seem fair to me. The beaviour of the Cameroon players was ridiculous. The ref was shocking. She needed to get those cards out and get order back.ninestein wrote:The problem with these offside calls is that it seems you only have to have one tiny part of your body in an offside position. I have watched nearly all of the games in this world cup so far, and from what I have seen I cannot see England winning it. We give the ball away far to cheaply and too often in every game. It is worrying that this has not been addressed. My bet would be France for the win.
One thing that has struck me is how the teams have massively improved since the 2015 cup. We were so much better in that one than this.
Re: Women's world cup.
The referee tried to pull the Cameroon captain over and instruct her to pull her side into line.
But when it's the captain that's losing their cool, there's not much hope of that.
It should be a given for any professional sportsperson that if things go against you, you take it on the chin and get on with it.
I'm all for players showing a bit of emotion, but there's a line.
It wasn't just the XI on the pitch who were kicking off, it was the bench as well. Doesn't portray their nation in a good light.
Back in Italia 1990, a lot of people saw Cameroon as a breath of fresh air for their no fear approach to playing established teams like Argentina and Colombia. What a lot of people forget is that in their opening game, they had 2 players sent off, and the one from Benjamin Massing on Claudio Cannigia was one of the worst challenges you've ever seen. Their rugged approach has always been there, and probably won't change.
England vs Norway in the quarter final will probably be a good game and a lot more pleasant to watch as well. I don't think England have hit top gear yet. There's more in there to come, but now we're in the business end of the tournament, it's the fine margins of quality which will count.

Re: Women's world cup.
The Cameroon histrionics which were disgraceful despite all the understandable emotions involve! That said, I cannot see England progressing unless they cut out their amateurish mistakes when passing the ball. Had they been playing better teams so far, they would have let in a sack full of goals. England were more dangerous to themselves with the ball through loose passing than Cameroon were when they were attacking and in possession!
Re: Women's world cup.
In fairness, the same deficiencies could be aimed at our men's side.

Re: Women's world cup.
To add to Cameroon's claims of racism last night, I think that the referee was completely sexist as well.
I think that the match should be replayed

Re: Women's world cup.
I had not read about any racism claim, but if it was made by the Cameroon squad then they are just poring oil onto a fire they have already lit. I cannot see FIFA just letting Cameroon walk away without facing disciplinary action or it will encourage similar protests by other teams in the future whenever they feel discriminated against! Who can ever forget the non-goal goal that England men scored against Germany and was disallowed before VAR was dreamed up. Obviously England should have thrown a hissy fit and marched off the pitch!!!!!! LOL.Bee52 wrote:To add to Cameroon's claims of racism last night, I think that the referee was completely sexist as well.

Re: Women's world cup.
We did what any British person would do. Kept a stiff upper lip and got on with it. Whilst we were at it, our defence also did a very British thing and said "after you sir" every time Germany ran forward with the ball.

Re: Women's world cup.
That victory was very comfortable. The early goal helped settle the nerves. The whole match seemed somewhat tame compared to the Cameroon match. England just need to tighten up some of the sloppy passing. We still give the ball away too much, but at the same time we do find a way to recover. USA or France will be an awesome watch on Tuesday night, whatever team we face.
Ellen White just reminds me of a good old fashioned Lower league centre forward. Good strength, holds the ball up, plays well with her back to goal, and has that killer instinct inside the box. That's the sort of player we need to find to compliment Shaq and EMC.
