Big John is awesome. By the end of this season he could be our top league scorer ever. Add to that over 30 goals to help win us the conference. Add to that that this is his third season and he is signed for 2 more. And everything else he does other than just score goals. Yes a lot have been penalties, but he has won them. With the longevity I think he could end up being our best ever player (in terms of contribution to Barnet). Yes others will have gone on to better things, but generally they have been here for shorter spells. And that we can afford to tie down our best player to a long term contract, after being the conference top scorer followed by the league 2 third top scorer (I think) says a lot about the position we are in these days. Don't want to divert from the conversation or reopen arguments, but if we can keep club legends like Big John, whilst also redeveloping the stadium, then I can pay an extra couple of pounds a game (though I absolutely agree there has to be a better choice of seating and incentives for the walk up fans). I'll say it again, Big John is awesome, and Mad Dog knows how to get the best out of him.adher36 wrote:Akinde is now the 7/1 favourite to be the division's top scorer ahead of the likes of Jay Simpson which is very impressive. Stating the obvious, but we are so so fortunate that he plays for us. Not many League 2 players would have the strength and pace to score the goal he scored against Crawley today. And he does similar things week in week out almost without fail.
Would be facinating to see how much TK had to offer him to get him to sign this latest long term contract. I would not begrudge him if he was taking home £5k a week. I remember just before he left that TK said that Albert Adomah was offered the biggest ever contract in Barnet's history, so surely/ hopefully Akinde's deal more than eclipses that.
Surely he has to go down as one of Barnet's greatest and most important players in our history. Goals, strength, sufficient pace, composure, penalty and free-kick winning skills, he simply has everything that a great League 2 player needs.

I think Big John knows he's onto a good thing with us hence he signed that contract. I think he prizes the stability of staying at a club for a few seasons after being at a couple of clubs per season after he left Gravesend & Northfleet.

If John Akinde continues the way he has started the season until Christmas then expect big offers to come in for him which may be too generous for Tony to turn down.rudebwoyben wrote:I think Big John knows he's onto a good thing with us hence he signed that contract. A fantastic opportunity to win some cash tonight as Norwich Academy to beat Barnet is 11/5.
I normally hate betting against the Bees but Martin Allen has already stated that Saturday's trip to Doncaster is far more important. Norwich won their previous game in the Checkatrade Trophy 6-1 against Peterborough so if they turn up with the same players this could be a license to print money. Best shop odds I've found are 15/8 with William Hill and I've had £20 on that.
