Pecking Order

Post: # 224032Post wearebees »

Was a disgrace last night. Ordered mine at 6.45 and it was fine, came at 7.05. Was waiting for two friends who were due at 7.30, so ordered theirs at 7.05 expecting 25/30 minute wait as now busier.

7.40 and we started to ask about it. 7.50 and still no sign. Same for plenty of others in there. No idea what happened but from what poor waitresses were saying, sounds like the orders were either lost or the order of queue lost. To be fair the waitresses were doing their best and very apologetic but clearly had no idea what was happening. 7.57 and still no sign, so left friends who are not Barnet fans to wait for food which were told could now be in take-away boxes. 8.15 and they finally walk into stand with their rotisserie chicken, ready to eat with their fingers!

Plenty of others in the same position. Some of my other friends just gave up without their food.

I can’t quite understand how orders could get so lost/confused but can’t be helped by fact that they offered the full menu, rather than keeping it simple with match day menu.

My friends are locals and told me that the Stanmore branch recently closed mysteriously and is all boarded up. Could this branch be next?

Next time, we’ll go to Cannon’s Tandoor (which is very good).

Stanmore closed as Nando's opened on the same high street earlier this year and business fell away over night.

As for the Hive, ate their a number of times, match day and non match day. The standard has dropped, and i wouldn't be surprised if the chicken is now of a lower grade. The two original owners have left/sold out (don't know why just that they have now left).

Very surprised yesterday to get the full rather than the match day menu although probably a third of the menu wasn't available on a match day, so it's all over confusing. Keep the match day menu simple and churn out good quality quickly. I went early so was fine for time, a shame to hear you had a bad experience.

They need an experienced midfield enforcer in there to support the youth coming through the ranks :p

The whole operation last night was a complete shambles, both in Pecking Order and Legends.

In the middle of composing an email to The Hive now, as I know TK reads the emails that go to justtellus@thehivelondon.com

It was shit last night, 3 girls working but two of them was doing the tables, so left one be hide the bar to serve everyone wanting a drink. Very poor from the management there.

I have emailed them about the shambles with car park tokens, 1 steward told me they never sell car park tokens in the west stand bar - I have only bought about 50 in the past 4 years!!!

To be fair it's been fine the last few times but that was when they had the matchday menu. I would suggest this needs to return. Having a limited option at least means they don't need to cook to order and I'd rather have less choice and get my food than my experience last night which was to leave with no food.

I don't like to criticise the staff too much as they were clearly overwhelmed, but in cases like this they really shouldn't be seating people for food without informing them of the backlog of orders. Obviously everyone wants to be gone in advance of 8pm and as soon as it's clear this is not possible they should be told.

I found out that the tokens 'went missing' whatever that means, not sure if they had them by half time, but I intended to go and get one from Grazioli's only to find it closed post match. Thankfully they took cash on the barrier so I didn't have to go and get a token from the club shop.

Here is my email just sent over this morning

Good Morning

Well where do I start. To put it in a language that everyone understands, the whole operation last night from start to finish was a complete shambles

To be honest, I am now getting completely sick and tired of the same old excuses that we hear week in week out, and I am sure that the response I will get from this email, will be the same response, saying how hard it is to get match day staff for only 4 hours a shift etc, but people are now eating and drinking at other local establishments as they have just got sick and tired of the poor level of service

How on earth can we open Pecking Order at 6pm on a match day, this gave us only a 2 hour window maximum to eat before the game and seeing the chaos in there last night was embarrassing. People were inside Pecking Order well before 6pm and couldn't even get a drink as we didn't open until 6pm

This is not the fault of the only member of staff on duty, as she was carrying out the opening time instructions given to her. On a Saturday, we have a 3 hours before the match to eat, drink and socialise with our fellow supporters, this needs to be the minimum time available to us on a midweek game as well.

Trying to cramp in all those orders that you know will be coming as people are coming straight from work, just created bedlam in there last night. There was only 1 person on the floor taking orders, and a minimum of 1 person behind the bar nearly all of the time. Food was staying on the counter under the lights, which I know that's what they are there for, but not for 5 minutes, and it took an age to get a drink from the bar. It did raise the question , pre season, of why are we going to a full menu on a match day, rather than the successful match day menu and last night proved, if it is not managed correctly, you end up losing custom, which I witnessed on more than one occasion

Now over to the complete shambolic running on Legends

I ask someone of higher management at The Hive to just stand back and watch what goes on in there on a match day, or even better, do a shift behind the ramp. 75% of the staff there do not have a clue how to pour a pint, and we must be wasting I would say at least two pints, trying to pour a single pint. The wastage is an absolute embarrassment, and this is costing the club money.

Also last night, we were informed before half time, that there were no parking tokens available and we would have to go to the Club Shop to get tokens for the car park. We have always been able to purchase token to get out the car park in Legends. It turned out in the end, that the tokens were in the tills all along, and staff didn't know what they were there for.

We also run out of Fosters at one stage, or there was no one who could change a barrel. Also no supervisor or manager over there until half time

On Saturday, I was informed that we no longer sell half pints of bitter or lager, how on earth can this be the case, is this not a legal measure. So rather than risk being over the limit, two of my group didn't even bother with a drink

I look forward to receiving a reply to this email, or as a frequent user of The Hive, more than happy to sit down with you to discuss last nights debacle

Yours Faithfully

Well done Darren, it's important that people actually tell TK via the above e-mail rather than just whinge online.

Let us know if you get a response.

Problem is Pecking Order is now owned solely by TK, at least previously the other two guys had restaurant experience. Remember TK is the guy who can't sort out pre-pouring beers for half time, not sure pre-preping simple chicken is going to be easier either!!!
