Notts County (THL) The Rocky Balboa Match Thread
So.....after Barnet meekly surrendered at Mansfield we find ourselves returning to the hallowed turf of THL to face Notts County in another League Hoof (c. Jerroll) encounter.
With County chasing automatic promotion, and still smarting from a thumping in the principality (sounds painful) this promises to be another very testing match for Westley's warriors as we bravely seek to preserve our status in league 2.
While I am happy to take Westley's word's with a pinch of bullshit, his suggestion that he was "encouraged" by the performance at Mansfield which he viewed as our "pre-season", suggests he has already given up on preserving our league status. This is partnered by a frankly bizarre team selection (Why Bover?) and limited activity in the January transfer window (none of our new players started at Mansfield).
For me the fight is still very much on and we are like a punch drunk boxer on the ropes we can either fall over or we can start counter punching and overcoming strong opponents with heart, guts and commitment. Win on Saturday and we could be 4 points from safety with a game in hand. Surely we are not on the mat yet.
I would go:-
-------------------------------Legg-------------------------------
--Brindley-------Platovic--------Santos-------Tutonda------
-------------------Sule-------------Weston----------------------
--Nicholson-------------J. Taylor-------------Akinola---------
--------------------------Coulthirst-------------------------------
Subs: Ross, Clough, Vilhete, Watson, Kyei, Akinde, Nicholls
Appreciate the suggestion of dropping Akinde is a big call, and probably not one Westley will make, but in my view we look at our best when attacking at pace and Akinola deserves to start in his strongest position after his impactful subs appearance last week.
It's not over till it's over. COYB's!

That would be my team except Vilhete for Sule and Akinde for Coulhirst.
I know nothing about Sule, but feel confident with Vilhete in the team.
Some noticable absenses from Westley's teams to date though - but have to agree with you #DropTheCrap

Dropping big John could give him the kick up the backside he needs!
Is Sule fit? Wasn't he seen injured around the time of the Enfailed game?

Hopefully Notts County mentally scarred from last night. See they had 17K attendance at Meadow lane last week some support.

It was £2 entry. Who knows - we might be able to manage 1.7k if we tried that...Nudger70 wrote:Hopefully Notts County mentally scarred from last night. See they had 17K attendance at Meadow lane last week some support.

Give Shaq the space in the middle to run into and close down the oppositions defence, when they have the ball.
Get Vilhete back for his drive and determination.
I still prefer clumsy Clough over Santos. For all his faults,Clough is mentally stronger than Santos in my opinion.

Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Although County got thumped last night I didn't see anything that could give us comfort on Saturday. They actually passed the ball confidently and accurately, something we've failed to do recently. They also have a stable team and a solid structure, again things we have lacked. Gonna be tricky.
Re: Notts County (THL) The Rocky Balboa Match Thread
We can't read anything into their game last night. They didn't strike me as being a side who ran themselves into the ground.
Big test for us.

A game that won't define our season but could give it a big spark!

I thought the entire stadium evacuated 5 mins before final whistle anyway?
Re: Notts County (THL) The Rocky Balboa Match Thread
Is it just me or is anyone expecting a good first half for it all to turn to crap and lose in the second half?

Re: Notts County (THL) The Rocky Balboa Match Thread
Martin Allen, and our other managers as far as I know, had no interest in the FA Cup but when you hear that Newport expect to make £700,000 from their FA Cup games, and no doubt Yeovil and Notts County will be similar, it's no wonder we can't attract top players.
I'm in a quandary about how to approach the rest of the season. I've resigned myself to the fact that we will go down so if in the unlikely event we stayed up I would be absolutely ecstatic. I will still go to as many games as I can but will have turned off my disappointment response gene and watch games almost as a neutral observer. To do anything else would surely lead to serious mental illness.
I just hope the club is seriously carrying out some contingency planning for the inevitable and will not wait until mid July before taking action.
