Re: Sheffield United Information
A friend of mine, who sadly passed away a few years ago, supported both Barnet and Sheffield United. He was one of a group of us who watched Barnet home and away in the 1960's and '70's. I even went to the world cup final with him in 1966. He moved to Sheffield where he taught at the University. He bought an old pub which he renamed the Fat Cat and then started brewing his own beer and founded a brewery called the Kelham Island Brewery. It became very successful. He became a very keen Sheffield United Fan and I understand he sponsored at few home matches. Had he still been around I bet he would have sponsored our match at Bramall Lane.

Who can name players who have turned out for both Barnet and the Blades? Top of my head I've come up with the obvious name of Steve Kabba and the more obscure Bob Booker.

Ricky Holmes. Jamal Campbell Ryce. Brian Marwood. Marlon King finished his club career there, or in jail, depending how you look at it.Norfolkbee wrote:Who can name players who have turned out for both Barnet and the Blades? Re: Sheffield United Information
Thank you for the replies guys and especially about Dave Wickett which as you correctly said started the Kelham Island brewery.
Don't be so sure you'll lose either. Sure, we'll be the overwhelming favourites but how many times does the underdog prevail? We should know, we've had some massive cup games and got to the semi final at Wembley 4 years ago as a league 1 side.
It's the cup, anything can happen and it would not be much of a shock to me should you get a result at the Lane.
Bob Booker is a Blades legend by the way. In fact he's my favourite player of all time. Not the most talented of course but he took our club to his heart and instead of retiring and starting a window cleaning round, had one last try at making it big at the age of 31. He captained us to promotion to division 1, now the premier league for you young uns, and scored the winning goal at QPR that kept us there the following year.

Many thanks Richie for your post. Quite so! I for one love the older original grounds and I guess none more original than the Blades’. Very interested in a bit of local history also. Might visit the old Great Central Victoria station site as well. Like others have posted, yes a big PL side would have healed some rifts in the club what with the move and all but hey, I’m sure many will want a taste of the older stadium history as well ! All the best
