Driving to Woking

Warning to anyone thinking of driving to Woking on Saturday.
The M25 will be closed in both directions between Jcts 10 and 11 from 9pm on Friday 15th March until 6am on Monday 18th March.
Expect major traffic chaos!!

I have a recollection of one visit to Woking being diverted off M25 at J13 of M25 and going via Egham and Chertsey.

Just allows lots of time as the traffic will be bad AND the drive from M3 J3 to Wokings ground is slow despite not being far.

Alternative can be take A412 Slough bound / M4 - then come off Datchet > Old Windsor etc. to Chobham then Woking

I’ve been looking at this - how’s our luck hey! Seems you can come off a few junctions early but I guess we’ll meet up with all the traffic coming off at junction 11 later on either way?

Think the A3 is open (but slow) so down to Ripley and in on the A247

Starting to worry about this - will leave with plenty of time but hard to predict the best route. ATM planning to go via M25 then M3 but could be mayhem.

I'd say this will be the best option to drive. The diversion hits the A3 just before the M25, and all vehicles will have to navigate the roundabout before joining the A3. If your coming out of London it should be OK until you hit the diversion route but that's only about 2 miles down to M25. As the A3 goes over the M25 as a dual carriageway it should flow and all,diverted traffic will be on the slip road down to the roundabout intersection. Going south on the A3 from the M25 will be the busy section and finding a route through to Woking via Send/Ripley or even Guildford will be an issue so leave plenty of time.The train is really the best option but that to is slow and involves a long walk.

However daughter and I discussed it and agreed that it just wasn't worth the risk. We'd have had to have left really early just in case, then if we'd been lucky and had no problems, we'd have arrived far too early - so couldn't win either way.

So we're going by train. Which if nothing else will be novel. All the times we've been to Woking yet this will be the first time ever we've set foot in the town centre.

The "long walk" is only 1.1 mile!

Probably but I am up in Bedfordshire - A3 doesn't really look an option for me.

I suspect you're right but it's probably going to be the only time in my life that I will ever visit so I'm going to pretend to look forward to it!
