I feel you have missed the point at over 50 we are not a super fit elite outfit. I would like anybody to try the great game. But you have missed the point of stating everybody is included when that clearly has not happened. The team that were spanked on Saturday 8-3 in a 40 min football match is a heavy defeat however you try to SPIN it. If BARNET had lost by that score on Saturday instead of the draw, would we be saying they were unlucky and the eighth goal was offside please it's football not basketball. I'm all for including everyone but we know each other and you know who are the stronger players that were NOT included. Anyway we will go round in circles it is what it is and you are what you are. jUST STOP BLEATING ON REGARDING INCLUDING EVERYONE WHEN IT HAS NOT HAPPENED and never will. We now know how it's going to be run. You either accept that or excuse the pun walk away. You know my decision.

I'm quite bemused about Coldplay's statement. To my knowledge we have never been in a position where we could have fielded two teams in a tournament. Everyone who said they would turn up and did played a part and those players covered a wide spectrum of ability, but we've not had the numbers to even consider playing two teams. What were we supposed to do - withdraw from a tournament because someone felt our technical ability wasn't up to it, so I really don't know what his rant was all about.

For the record I, (being one of the founder members and whose technical ability is questionable to say the least!) and have said this before, would love us to have 2,3 4 and more teams where the different selection criteria would be met. We haven't been going a year yet and I feel we have done remarkably well getting to where we are now and thanks to all who have contributed just by coming along. Hopefully the next year will show attendance continue to grow. A point of interest - considerably less than 50% are Barnet FC supporters showing we are working in the community.

What I do know is, in my opinion, both on Thursday evening and Friday afternoons I couldn't ask for nicer, lovelier people. Thank you all :y: :y: :y: :Drink1:

Nice to see that when I retire from moderating this forum I can start moderating a Barnet over 50s forum and have similar problems...

Phew , there is always one who makes his point , then instead of realising that in a democratic world , you don't always win .... Then has to carry it a stage further .. Phew ...
At this moment in time we are an inclusive team , if you turn up , you play , no matter how good or bad you are , you play .. Where as our friend Coldplay found this frustrating ... Why play someone who is useless against Colchester and get beat ... Thought he meant.. Shaun batt .. (( Sorry could not resist .)) Why not integrate players from another team into ours cos they are better players and we will win more .. But the point is , it's not all about winning , it's about enjoying our self and spreading the good word about Barnet FC , walking football in the community .. We recently had , for a few weeks , a person who played on goal , and was throwing the ball out to the opposition , who would score , and other interesting decision making moves .. If he would have turned up to a tournament , then he would have had his moment on the pitch .. We later found out that he was recovering from a stroke , And we hope in some small way we helped in his recovery , but knobody made any comments to him about his ability . I am sure there are many who suffer from depression and other conditions that find playing football , socialising after the game etc helps with there re/Hab .. There is an article on the BBC about such issues and the benfits of sport / walking football to such people ..
At the end of the day as frustrating as it seems to some people , Barnet walking football team is more then just about winning.

From the BBC

We play orient soon and there manager put this on there Facebook page ..

"
" I am really looking forward to this one as the Barnet guys play the game in the right sprit and are also a cracking bunch of lads."

That to me and the rest of our team , is our victory .. And of course we want to win the match as well .

Here is our Whitby Walking Football team. Guess which one is me!
We are trying to get affiliated with Whitby Town FC (now top of the Northern Premier League). If you guys fancy a nice mini break in Whitby, let me know and I can set up a game or two.

Fab news as Barnet walking football team beat Watford away , having recently taken on the more experienced Colchester and Orient teams and putting in good displays , we could see that we were becoming more tactically aware and as such have now added Watford to our list of victories

Congratulations to Pete Speroni on his Community Award for his contribution to over 50s walking football. My friend, John, and I don't go that often but when we do we always enjoy ourselves and are made to feel welcome. Well done, Pete. regards Nick
