I did not know Dermot Drummy, but a pal of mine was very close friends with him. His funeral was well-attended and many former players from his previous clubs were there, including Liam Brady and Paul Davis.beew wrote:That's a great story and well told.Itai-bee wrote:Massive game tomorrow.I don’t know why but feel very positive.
On a sad note.
Very, very sorry to hear about the death of former Crawley manager Dermot Drummy.Who died, aged 56 late last year.
A ex Arsenal player and former Arsenal and Chelsea youth team coach.
I remember him fondly from his Hendon playing days.A star player for Hendon at the time.
I used to watch Hendon as a kid. When Barnet played away.
Hendon drew Reading away in the FA cup 1st rd in 1988.( Ian Dowie played for Hendon at the time)
It was a big televised game for Hendon.Everybody was quiet excited.
I was working in my Dads cafe that week. When Dermot Drummy came in.He was surprised that I recognised him and asked me if I was going to the Reading game.He than asked me for my address.
I was a bit confused but gave it to him.
On the early morning of the game.Dermot knocks on my door and hands me over his Hendon No 7 shirt and says “ have a great day”.
what a Lovely gesture on the morning of a massive away game.
It said everything about what the man was about.
A moment I will never forget.
Apparently Dermot was a very outgoing, chirpy character who lived for football. Unfortunately when he lost his job at Crawley he was unable to cope with being out of the game and depression took over.
Such an awful shame, and football has lost a very good coach and a great man.
