Solihull Moors (Away) The Moors The Merrier Match Thread

Post: # 269925Post Bee_Forever »

So.... Saturday sees the bees return to the hallowed turf of Bananarama league football for one of two fixtures before we travel to AFC Fyld£ in the trophy.

After last nights lack lustre performance and the somewhat meandering defeat to Sutton, the concern is that we will sleep walk in to another relegation dog fight, and going to a top of the table team with half of our players missing is hardly ideal either.

While it may be the case that Soli seems to be the hardest game, we need to ensure we are not saying soli I haven't a clue by 4:50 and that some of our underperforming players (Cheye) have pulled their socks up and put in a more competent performance.

On the basis that none of the inured players are fit to return this is the team I would go with.

---------------------------Huffer---------------------------

--Alexander------Robson------Sweeney----Tutonda--

------------H. Taylor-----Elito-----Boucard-------------

--Mason-Clark---------------------------------Fonguck--

---------------------------Coulthirst-----------------------

Subs: Matrevics, Payne, Sparkes, Harrison, Charles

As of yesterday we are missing: Santos, Johnson, Reynolds, Vilhete, Jack Taylor, Adams, Akinola and Walker. With a small squad of selectable players this is a crippling injury crisis and one we need to address in the load market with EXPERIENCE if we are not to slip further down the league. Priority one being an experienced centre back to play alongside Sweeneybauer and stop him from scragging the No. 9 at Sutton.

Doing this one by Percy bus stopping at Stratford. Should be a good day out, hope the football matches it! :y:

Really looking forward to this one.

Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that we’d be going into this game 28 points behind Solihull Moors with them at the top of the table!

No matter what happens in the next few months, Tim Flowers is definitely my vote for manager of the season.

Solihull Moors site is saying this is all ticket... have we only got standing behind the goal and uncovered seating?? Are the tickets e mail or collect at the ground?

Be warned. The way that Solihull Moors play football makes Sutton Utd look like Brazil at the 1982 World Cup finals.

The all ticket reference is for their FA Trophy game v Telford not our game!

Santos sent a tweet last night that would seem to suggest he is close to a comeback - hopefully we can start to slowly integrate him back

Solihull clearly had an off day when we beat them 2-0 at The Hive, is it too much to hope that they might have another such off day tomorrow? Still, it's not too far to travel, a new ground and a decent weather forecast.

As for Santos, it would be so good to get him back but after so long out, he clearly can't be rushed.

"Solihull clearly had an off day" that is a rather disparaging comment about your own team don't you think?

Expect a tough game but hopefully a close one, with Fonguck having something to prove replacing the injured Jack Taylor.

Bloody hell, just listening to the pre-match update.

Mauro - needs an operation, probably out for season
J Taylor - needs an operation, probably out for 5-6 weeks
Josh Walker - back training next week
Akinola - back training next week
Santos - back training unlikely to be match fit for 3-4 weeks
Reynolds - back in training

Not remotely disparaging. Solihull were 5th at the time but hardly tested us. It was evident that they were having an off day.
Like last season when we won 0-1 at Colchester, Colchester were very poor that day. It's not often that we get the rub of the green like that but it happens.
Results are determined by both sides, not just one.

Losing Jack Taylor is a major blow. He creates so much and stops so many attacks. His replacement, Boucaud, is so static and tackles nobody. Never likely to score either as he rarely gets within 25 yards of the opposition goal. Even if Ashley Charles is considered to be JT's replacement he's no where near JT's quality.

Agree it’s a major blow, but neither of those players will be replacing Taylor in the team. Currie has been pretty settled on playing with 2 holding midfielders (Robson and Adams to start with) and then one in front of them in a more advanced role, namely Taylor.

Still had one holding (Adams) and two more advanced midfielders (Taylor and Fonguck). Hence Fonguck mostly on the bench under Currie, until Tuesday night in the absence of Taylor. In other words, it’ll be Fonguck replacing Taylor.

Boucaud/Charles would be replacing Robson (required in defence due to injuries to others) and/or the injured Adams.
