Post: # 359558Post hoofer2 »

With 19 points from a possible 24.... where does this rank in strongest ever starts to season?

It must be up there ? Last year we were on 13 after 8 games

It was. 7 wins and 1 draw from our opening 8 games. Then we lost at home to Boston United.

If you were on Twitter, you’d know the answer. Downhillsecondhalf supplied it, we got 22 points in 04/05.

Burton Albion
Remember that clearly. Burton's manager was Nigel Clough, his Dad Brian had just died and there was speculation as to whether the match would go ahead. It did, Nigel was present on the touchline. Burton's players did it for Nigel and won 0-3. Any other time we'd probably have won but the occasion beat us that evening.

Think most of us viewed our early fixtures as pretty tough. 3 of last seasons playoff teams plus Hartlepool gives this season start more credit.

Didn't remember it being that close, just remembered them scoring 3 times.

Such a sad occasion though. One of the greats.

I saw this on another forum, the idea is to compare like for like fixtures from last season to give an interesting comparison of how we are doing.

Teams are replaced as follows
Wrexham are replaced with Hartlepool
Notts are replaced with Rochdale
Maidstone are replaced with Ebbsfleet
Scunthorpe are replaced with AFC Fylde
Yeovil are replaced with Kidderminster
Torquay are replaced with Oxford City

Results so far:
Hartlepool (H): W | D = +2
Bromley (A): W | W = Evens
Eastleigh (A): D | W = Evens
Woking (H): W | W = Evens
Dagenham (A): L | L = Evens
Ebsfleet (H): W | W = Evans
Boreham Wood (A): W | D = +2
Altrincham (H): W | L = +3

After 8 games we are 7 points better off than the same fixtures last season
