Josh Keeley signs on loan from Spurs

I suspect Spurs have loaned him to us for free, with the aim for him to get some proper mens football under his belt. We've probably guaranteed Spurs, he'll play a certain number of games, maybe FA trophy next week, and if LW gets injured or suspended, a place in the league.

He seems way too highly rated to sit on the bench. Laurie has been back to his best, but his best technically wise isn’t strong enough. His passing and kicking isn’t good enough for a possession based side. On Saturday it was his hospital clearance that almost led to them scoring. From looking it up Keeley seems to be comfortable playing with his feet, and that’s what we’ve desperately needed. If LW is to be benched it would not necessarily be completely performance based IMO, it would would also represent a keeper that fits our style better, as GKs have to have attributes of a midfielder these days

I suspect that Laurie is injured or has secured a move elsewhere.

No reason to sign keeley otherwise.

Yes he is struggling a bit with the high line but not to the extent he needs to be replaced.

If Keeley is just here to cover Gilmore loan that seems a waste of time given his quality. Can't see Walker sitting on the bench for him either.

Two days ago on the club twitter (x) account they posted a short highlights film of Laurie's sterling work against the sealshaggers under the heading 'Our no.1 Laurie Walker'. It would be odd timing if they were thinking of making him our no.2 or moving him on. Could be Josh will be used against Radcliffe and North Greenford to keep Laurie fresh.

My guess is this is purely for competition and to give LW a rest in cup competitions. DB wants competition in every position and doesn’t have it for goalkeeper.

If LW keeps his recent form up I think he’ll remain our number 1 but if Newport LW returns DB who’s patience is not renowned will make the change.

Our high line, habit of losing the ball and allowing fast opponents to attack quickly through our defensive line mean that it's more important for our goalie to be excellent at defending 1 on 1s than being able to play with his feet.

Replacing Laurie if it comes to pass is a brave move.

He has saved us numerous times. What goalie at our level isn't vulnerable to the odd blip?

Laurie has been incredible for us.

However improving a football team is important. If Keeley is marginally better than Walker he will be some keeper and improve the side particularly if stylistically he is a better fit.

We must think to improve the side for the now and have a strong run in.

The difficulty with such loans is that he will return to his parent at the end of the season. We will then have to find a new keeper in the summer.

Maybe that will be Jordan

Don’t think we need a change at all why upset a settled defence that has just kept 3 clean sheets in a row ?

I can only see this as back up for LW, but I am often very wrong so who knows

Maybe someone has listened to DB criticising LW in post match interviews, sensed that all is not well between them and has made a bid for him? I hope not but equally I can see no sense in us having 2 spare keepers, neither of whom will even get to sit on the bench.

Gillmore was on the bench for our last home game but more often than not there is no sub keeper named.

I think we should always have a keeper on the bench. I think that that it should be a stipulation that all teams need a recognised keeper on the bench. If that means one extra sub than so be it. My reason is that, if a keeper is injured or concussed teams would be more likely to try to keep them on perhaps than if a specialised keeper was on the bench.

I think a goalkeeper who was not as good as shot stopping as LW, but is better with his feet will improve us more due to the style we play. Harsh, but competition is what we need.

I suspect that Walker will be very popular in dressing room too if his relationship with fans is anything to go by. Don't want to tip the applecart of unity.

It could be that Spurs would like their keeper to get experience of being around a first team XI. My concern would be if he plays we lose season to season continuity if loan only goes to end of season.

Fullbacks and central defenders have given ball away cheaply at times so cannot all be on Walkers shoulders. A Gary Breen type defender to marshal the defence could have been an option instead.
