In the 1962/3 season we switched an FA Amateur cup match to Enfield as the Underhill pitch was unplayable. I think, but not 100% certain, our opponents were Cray Wanderers.becbee wrote: ↑10 Apr 2024, 20:05Oh yes, I remember that one now.john dockers shorts wrote: ↑10 Apr 2024, 19:56 We played Carlisle in the Trophy at Morecambe when their pitch was under water
Any others?

Re: Halifax
Yes the only previous time we have played a league game away on neutral ground was the game v AP Leamington which i think was the next game after the Brighton cup matches so Jan 82. IIRC didn't Hendon play an FAT match v Taunton i think, on same day, either before or after Barnet's game. QPR were trying to promote the awful awful plastic pitch by offering it for multy use. Game unsurprisingly finished 0-0

I would imagine they may rest a few players I'm the final game if they have secured their playoff spot.Berlinbee wrote:Gateshead and Halifax are going to be knackered come the playoffs.

I was at the game versus AP Leamington at Loftus Road and subsequently played (in goal) and, indeed, refereed a match on that pitch. It was truly awful, as hard as concrete, a health & safety hazard for goalkeepers, and the ball kept bouncing unevenly where the pieces of the pitch were coming loose from the base. My knees feel sore just thinking about it.

Re: Halifax
Our club badge which features the red rose of Lancashire and the white rose of Yorkshire is very appropriate as we are playing a club from Yorkshire in Lancashire.

But why did we need to find a neutral venue in the first place? Presumably Underhill was unfit for some reason?blitzkrieg bee wrote: ↑11 Apr 2024, 10:04 Yes the only previous time we have played a league game away on neutral ground was the game v AP Leamington which i think was the next game after the Brighton cup matches so Jan 82. Well of course they will but any national league squad would struggle to stave off fatigue with 5 matches in 9 daysBee_Forever wrote: ↑11 Apr 2024, 10:18I would imagine they may rest a few players I'm the final game if they have secured their playoff spot.Berlinbee wrote:Gateshead and Halifax are going to be knackered come the playoffs.

Re: Halifax
The format of the play-offs makes a completely dead rubber unlikely, too. Eg hard to make the call to rest players if winning/losing represents the difference between a home or away play-off game, or even making or missing out on the top 3 and jumping straight to the semi finals.Berlinbee wrote: ↑11 Apr 2024, 17:42Well of course they will but any national league squad would struggle to stave off fatigue with 5 matches in 9 daysBee_Forever wrote: ↑11 Apr 2024, 10:18I would imagine they may rest a few players I'm the final game if they have secured their playoff spot.Berlinbee wrote:Gateshead and Halifax are going to be knackered come the playoffs.

There is a report on BBC News that Daventry Town FC have had to reverse a Board decision to go cashless from June due to a backlash from their fans.letchbee94 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2024, 19:23 What about when technology goes down and cash is only option to pay, This happaned other week at Sainsbury's.
I get some people think there should be an option to be able to pay for ticket with a card which is fair enough but then places should alos have option to be able to use cash if they wish (The Hive london take note please)
The Board has made the decision without any consultation with their fans and there were threats of a boycott unless the Club changed its decision and stayed with cash.
Well done to those fans and also well done to Daventry Town FC for listening to its fans and not being dictatorial.

Just watched the highlights from Saturday. Halifax certainly had some great chances didn't they, especially in the first half. Woeful finishing from them. Looked as though we weren't defending crosses very well.
