What happened to Gary Hooper? Will we see him play again for us?

Re: Gary Hooper
My favourite heckle of this and many past seasons was when Hooper came on as a substitute in a home match and some wag behind me shouted "come on Hooper, make a name for yourself".
Re: Gary Hooper
The last time he made our match day squad was at Ebbsfleet on 16th December when he made an 86th minute sub appearance
He was a gamble that didn't pay off but at least he scored a 97th minute equaliser v Solihull and he scored 1 of the 2 consolation goals at Chesterfield.

Re: Gary Hooper
That 97th minute equaliser against Solihull could end up being crucial in the race to finish 2nd or 3rd.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!
Re: Gary Hooper
Wow, almost forgot he joined Barnet! Another one for the memory lane scrap book.
Re: Gary Hooper
I called it as soon as we signed him.
A clearly overweight 36 year old who hadn't played proper football since 2019. Was such a stupid signing. Not really sure what DB expected.
I hope he is on a pay per play contract.

He knew he was having a laugh too.
I distinctly remember the expression of sheer disbelief on his face when he scored that equaliser against Solihull.
Right place and right time and all that, but any of us with our fitness levels would have buried that.

Re: Gary Hooper
wouldn't agree it was stupid, to use a Brennanism it was a free-hit.
He certainly wasn't playing for big bucks
Re: Gary Hooper
Both Gary & Luke Freeman are classic examples of players who join a club having not had a full preseason and struggle to catch up fitness wise. Luke was getting there prior to his calf injury but since he has comeback his fitness levels look like they have returned to square 1 sadly.

Re: Gary Hooper
Is he still with us? Anyone been to watch us train seen him?
Re: Gary Hooper
Disagree with all of that. I saw him in three games. In two of them, he scored - in each case after working hard and cleverly to be in the right position and to react the fastest. He still had some (obviously not all) of his top-class goal-poaching instincts. The expression on his face after the Solihull goal was one of jubilation, not disbelief. In the third game which I saw, however, it looked like Dean had asked him to work the midfield. Well, he was never going to be able to do that consistently or for many minutes.jamiefrbees wrote: ↑05 Apr 2024, 11:38 He knew he was having a laugh too.

Nowhere did i say he wasn't happy to have scored - just that he couldn't believe it.markobee wrote: ↑05 Apr 2024, 20:33Disagree with all of that. I saw him in three games. Jubilation and disbelief aren't mutually exclusive
Re: Gary Hooper
I would like to see more of him hopefully he stays for next season. Plenty of experience too especially if we get promoted.
