Re: Ex-Bees (2014 update)
Flowers did a decent job with Solihull and they probably punched above their weight in that era. But Tim has been dining out on his Solihull reputation ever since. We as fans fell into that trap expecting better than what we got. The signings he made were largely forgettable, and it was very much p...

Re: Fair play table
This type of league table purely for the statisticians and anoraks. When the Isthmian League was first sponsored by the Rothmans fag company back in the mid-1970s, each club used to start with a sum of money (£250?), which diminished each time a player was booked or sent off. Our good friends Enfail...

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
I would hazard a guess that a lot of those opposing the original South Underhill plan thought that, if they forced BFC out completely, the old stadium site would be included in the green belt. The new school probably came as a rude awakening. Was there ever a campaign against the school?

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
I often wonder how much being close to a football stadium knocks off the value of a property. I’m sure there were homeowners around old Underhill, who objected to the original scheme purely because they wanted the club gone for good so the price of their houses went up. Just my thought, but I’m not ...

Re: Ex-Bees (2014 update)
We were worse in every way under Tim Flowers than we were under Beadle. Always felt Beadle tried, he was just managing way above his level. The strange thing was Flowers had managed with a degree of success at National League level. I seem to recall there were no dissenting voices when he was appoi...

Re: Ex-Bees (2014 update)
To be fair, Flowers was on a hiding to nothing when he arrived. He was an experienced manager with decent credentials, who inherited a useless bunch of players. As he said when he left: “I just couldn’t get any more out of them.” He was another in a long line of failed Barnet, managers”, but you can...

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
Reading through the comments of those who have signed the petition - genuine or otherwise - most are pretty much what you’d expect. However, the one that sticks out aludes to to Barnet FC’s “bad reputation”. This just comes across as scaremongering for the sake of it (or rather scaring others).

Re: FA Trophy
I don’t know if anybody agrees with me, but I think that, apart from the early rollercoaster ride of the Barry Fry days, the best team Barnet put on the pitch in the Football League was assembled by Ray Clemence. I think that team had the potential to go places had Clem not got England’s call.

Re: FA Trophy
If we do achieve promotion, we must ensure that we are ready for it, unlike the last time when it was painfully obvious that the group of players we had assembled was nowhere good enough. Even Martin Allen could see that and soon departed. Even promotion under PF was a bit of a lottery. On paper, w...

Made National League South team of the season. Excellent prospect... FB_IMG_1715967438537.jpg If I was looking for one of the National League South team of the season to step up and join us, I would go for Charlie Ruff, who looked a pretty decent player when we played Chelmsford in the FA Cup. Howe...

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
One possible threat to these plans, which I wholeheartedly back, could be future local elections. It only takes one political party to decide to stir things up in the hope of picking up a few votes. We all know that the ward taking in Underhill has tended to be a "marginal" in previous ele...
