Cambridge (KFC) The ROFL Match Thread
Re: Cambridge (KFC) The ROFL Match Thread
I love Mauro but, bar Batt, he's probably the worst finisher we've had in the past decade.

Re: Cambridge (KFC) The ROFL Match Thread
It's the age old problem - if you pick 2 out-and-out wingers and play 2 up front you're left with just 2 in the middle, so you get overrun. (That was a lesson most painfully learned during Ian Hendon's managerial stint.) So what he's trying to do is get the right balance by playing Weston nominally on the left, but expecting him to fill in and lend weight to the centre of midfield. Admittedly it leaves a rather lop-sided shape to the team, but the only real alternative is to go 3 at the back with wing backs or play just one up front.Golf Delta wrote: I'm at a loss to understand how a new manager coming in can identify almost immediately that if Weston is surplus to requirements in central midfield, that he is a better choice than any of the wingers left on the bench, when he's not a winger.
You have to feel a bit sorry for Nugent - 4 points dropped in 2 games, and on each occasion the opposition has scored with their one and only strike on goal in the entire game. When teams are evenly matched, like today, luck plays a big part, and we didn't get any today. Not sure what the 1st half goal was disallowed for, Akinde & Akinola both should have scored from headed chances in the 1st half, and 2nd half their keeper made a great save with his leg, but a yard either side and it was a certain goal. So we weren't that bad. I think we just need to keep calm, but having said that there's obviously a need to be more clinical in front of goal, which has been the case all season. They need to work on that in training, or give someone else a chance - maybe Mason-Clark, Shomaton or even giving Amaluzor a start to see what he can do.

Todays goal came from us overcommitting players forward and Clough being a square peg in a round hole. I think we are better off with Mauro at rb although he probably shouldn't be available for the Blackpool game! we are suffering for a poor 31st january!!

Most of the best teams play lopsided. Parlour wasn't a right winger in the invincibles team and tucked in to allow Pires to pile forward. Even Chelsea's current team play with Moses slightly further forward than Alonso.let_it_bee wrote:It's the age old problem - if you pick 2 out-and-out wingers and play 2 up front you're left with just 2 in the middle, so you get overrun. A game we deserved to win by a goal but as usual didn't.
Amlazour and Campbell-Ryce were class when they came on IMO but perhaps that was just because CU dropped deeper.
Don't blame Akinde - who were excellent as ever. We need someone to come in at CAM because yeah okay we can play the long ball to John but there's no-one offering anything shorter - it's just the same thing every time too easy to defend. Need to create more but we still played well today.
Oh well win some lose most.

Really disappointed with the performance. Johnson had a tough time with their no 7 but coped pretty well I thought. Clough culpable for the goal, sliding in rashly and giving their player plenty of time to get a decent cross in, simply not good enough. I'm also really concerned about Akinola, he isn't big enough for the physical stuff and looked out of his depth. He just doesn't look like he'll score a goal, and that's a comment that is valid across a number of games. We need a decent strike partner for John going forward and I'm just not sure Simeon is that player.
Cambridge were not a good side and we should have beaten them. Simply hoofing the ball up to John Akinde and hoping he can latch onto it is not a strategy, particularly when the passes are so poor. I've also seen so many games where we've not had the killer instinct or the leadership/character to play as we can play. I'm not sure the squad realise the quality they have in themselves if they play to their strengths, playing it on the ground with accurate through passes to John and Mauro and notwithstanding my reservations possibly Akinola. For the first twenty minutes we were all over Cambridge through good passing football. What needs to happen is that this needs to be completed by a killer instinct in front of goal and the strength of character to play the way that works for us.

I would say 1st September 2016jerroll wrote:we are suffering for a poor 31st january!!

Agree but we didn't let 4 players go on that date and not replace them. Dog should have brought a rb in then!buzzinbee wrote:I would say 1st September 2016jerroll wrote:we are suffering for a poor 31st january!!

Shit performance. We cannot score goals!!!! Not playing to Akinde's strengths and we don't take chances. Been the same all season. We were so dominant today.
Mauro was awful. Akinde gives a sloppy ball away for them to break. Not scoring when on top. iiiii
Get Allen back. Haven't moved anyway since we spent that money.

Fair enough but the ones on loan aren't doing much at their clubs & more than likely it was a business decision to let them go.jerroll wrote: Agree but we didn't let 4 players go on that date and not replace them. Dog should have brought a rb in then!
Personally even though he's playing in the Irish League, MA should of given Matt Stevens more of a chance, just like Taylor.
Re: Cambridge (KFC) The ROFL Match Thread
Matt Stevens was awful. Akpa Akpro on the other hand.
Re: Cambridge (KFC) The ROFL Match Thread
Players on Twitter seem convinced we were unlucky today which is bullshit I'm afraid. We weren't good enough.
