Did Lewis Hamilton just say that his motivation to achieve was driven by a desire to get out of a slum ?

Before he and his family moved to Tewin when he secured his first Formula 1 contract he lived in a 3 bedroomed house built in the 1990s in a very nice road in Stevenage. Hardly a slum.

Indeed!
Hamilton can never have seen an actual slum, let alone lived in one.
It's all relative in his mind though.
He's essentially described what most of us, possibly, live in now, as a slum!

Arrogant, unpleasant man who is effectively insulting the majority of his fans, to say nothing of his family who brought him up in his "slum".

Once you’re in the top 0.01% economically, anywhere outside Monte Carlo will look like a slum to you.

The road isn't a slum, unfortunately those who live in said road are not the most desirable of people however. I empathise with Lewis, and understand where he's coming from.

Don't like him personally and can't believe he should have been nominated as I have seen ants with more personality then him BUT I don't think he meant his comment in the way it has been made to look by the media and snowflakes.

You want to be careful with what you say. I may drink your Christmas present.

Personally I thought it was a very crass comment and his attempt at "street" talk even though it's clear he has not had to endure abject poverty.
Poor little Lewis having to live in a 3 bedroom semi-childhood home https://www.thecomet.net/news/lewis-ham ... -1-1126768

He deserves all the criticism that comes his way for his comments,

Stevenage may not be picture perfect, but there are far many worse places to live. It's an insult to his parents, especially to his dad who supported him right from the outset
and any form of motor racing is by not cheap to pursue as a hobby.

The link states the house to be 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom detached. I wish I could afford a slum like that, even if it is in Stevenage.

And 7 years ago its value was 400k!
There can be only one explanation for his comment......

Lewis Hamilton is a Barnet FC fan.

Top man!!

I'm glad we're united in our dislike of Lewis Hamilton.

Can we not be too nice to Stevenage in the meantime though?

Asda in Stevenage used to have a reserved parking space for Lewis Hamilton near the front door with a little picture of a F1 car in it. In the past couple of years it disappeared...
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

I can think of a more appropriate picture.
