A bad day off the pitch too
Re: A bad day off the pitch too
I just had a quick look on the Transfermarkt site (very good one for stats) and I noticed they have our ground capacity as 5176, down from 6500.
This is presumably because of the South terrace being closed for the season.

The capacities of the West and North Stands don’t add up to 5,176, more like 4,700!

Thought the catering in Legends on Saturday was dire. Why did they get rid of the catering company we had last season who provided good food with a well staffed and efficient fast service. Crazy!
Re: A bad day off the pitch too
do you know for a fact the club ' got rid' of them or did they decide they couldn't make sufficient mpney from our low crowds after they pay the club for the franchise?gowerfan wrote:Thought the catering in Legends on Saturday was dire. We could gather dozens of messages like this from this forum over the last few years. All the messages are well meant by the people who post them - but we need one voice to go to the club owner with, and it seems to me the supporters' association is the obvious route.
I wish the association a lot of luck and patience because it is not clear what the vision of the club's future is. At a time when the club needs everyone pulling in the same direction, we are miles off having that.
The bizarre state of the football side - the churn of managers and players that is becoming a standing joke around the country - is one part of it. We badly need to stick with the current football set-up for at least 18 months - just for the sake of credibility.

An explanation of sorts

It's actually embarrassing that the club were in this much of a mess and that those going were not informed of the issues in advance.

Crikey.
What a mess.
Surely much of this could have been avoided with planning well in advance of match day?
If other clubs had similar experiences and it's not just a shit show at the Hive, then maybe many people will cut them some slack.
If however no other clubs' fans had a similar experience, then it's just more evidence of how bad things are.

It seems like the club were short changed by a couple of partners but I don't think taking on so many new and seemingly inexperienced staff at once was a very wise idea.
Hopefully it cant get any worse than this!!!

You and others like you, are an extremely difficult to please.
If only half these things were true, it’s still a huge wobble to deal with.
Re: A bad day off the pitch too
For me - at least an explanation shows at least an acknowledgement that it isnt acceptable and for that I think it is progress - even if it was probably avoidable.

I'm easy to please, but I have every sympathy with those who went to the game oblivious to the problems and had their day spoiled by them.BigBee wrote: Blimey Mate.

Better to under promise and over deliver as far as I'm concerned.

An explanation is welcome - and not unusual, in fact, as the owner often has this sort of disappointment to apologise for, as mentioned further up this thread. A bit of a vicious circle, really.
Would the kit thing have been avoided by having a member of staff keeping tabs on it? As for the staff shortages in service industries, we may have to put up with them - the club is, basically, a part-time operation with 1000 regular customers. I would recommend someone to go on the PA, hammering out messages giving information and apologising for stuff, pre-match and at half-time.
Problem is, any improvement I can think of involves more people with greater expertise, and more expense, and a wholesale change in attitude.

I just imagined the statement being read out by an exasperated Basil Fawlty

Re: A bad day off the pitch too
Staff turnover can't help either. Victoria and the new media man are just the ones we know about. With every departing staff member, a lot of experience goes out of the door with them and it takes time to rebuild that level of knowledge.hgodwin wrote:An explanation is welcome - and not unusual, in fact, as the owner often has this sort of disappointment to apologise for, as mentioned further up this thread. An explanation is welcome. I know from my partner's job how difficult it is to hire caterers and bar staff at the moment. There's a huge shortage of people in London qualified and willing to take on this sort of work and it's only getting worse, so inevitably there are going to be shortages or prices will start rising.
