Wonder if the added time will lessen over time once the players are up to speed with the crackdown on timewasting etc

If Connor Smith is ever going to play again it’s surely at this time, when we’re missing an alternative ‘number 6’ holding midfielder as cover for Gorman. The absence of one on the bench was shown up yesterday, and there’s been a lot of talk about how we need to sign one. Perhaps he and Brennan want him to be able to concentrate on establishing himself as assistant manager and focusing on that role in these early weeks of the season. But if he’s fit they’ll surely be considering including him in the 16 until and unless we sign someone, because for all the talk of the absence of a holding midfielder other than Gorman in the squad, we’ve got a more than capable one with plenty of football league and national league experience right there in the form of Smith!

I'd rather recall Granville to play there than put Smith in. He hasn't had a minute all preseason and he wasn't amazing last year either.

Connor is very much now in assistant manager mode. DB mentioned in the podcast that we are actively looking for a player in that role. We need to be patient and trust in the process.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

I watched some of the preseason training and Smith wasn't taking part at all other than in a training capacity so I can't see him playing in any games.

In many ways conceding two very cheap goals when leading 3-0 on opening day may well do us more good in the long run. Teaches us more about what we need to work on than running out 3-0 winners would do. Nevertheless the fact we went 3-0 up without seemingly ever getting out of second gear is a very promising start.
Or the same problems as in the last few seasons are still there regarding game management, Mad Dog was the master, everyone else streets behind...
Not always - he painfully lost a 3 nil lead vs Kidderminster with questionable substitutions

Ah, I thought Smith had had some involvement on the pitch during pre-season, but was obviously mistaken. Seems strange that he would effectively hang up his boots at 30, but up to him and the club. If he was match fit he’d be more than capable in a situation such as yesterday’s, where we needed a replacement for Gorman to help us see the game out.

Mad Dog was indeed something of a master when it came to game management. That series of 1-0 wins at The Hive in the spring of 2016 vs the likes of Bristol Rovers, Portsmouth and Plymouth featured every trick on the book!

At around that time he even had the players drilled to waste time in a particular way after every single goal we scored if we were ahead, with all of them under orders to head to the left corner flag and kill some time as they gathered there, no matter what.

I was wondering whether Wynter might be able to play that role, since he seems to have lost his regular starting place. Would seem to have the necessary qualities.

Would be counter productive this season. The matches would simply drag on interminably until the opposition equalised.

The problem with time wasting is the perception that less time is added on, than is wasted so players will continue to do it.

Highlights are up.

Their first goal came from a lucky deflection and the Pen is about as soft as you could possibly get.

You can see the ball go out of play in the build up to their 'penalty'. We should have had a throw in.
