Whilst depressing that Stevenage Boro have made far more impact on the football league in the past couple of decades then we ever did, one has to admit they have done a good job at fan engagement to increase crowds.

The article highlights the consistency needed towards fan engagement starting in 2018. I think we can all agree that we have zero long term plans to actually grow crowds.

There are plans in place with local schools and community which are currently bringing in young school children with the aim that over time they align themselves as Barnet fans. Whether this works or not is yet to be discovered but there is 100% a plan in place.

Very interesting. The players literally going door to door with leaflets offering discounted tickets. Great mural too.

They’re also up near the top of the third tier which bloody helps. Honestly this constant engagement debate is so annoying. We’ve got plans to increase attendance, and good league position = more fans as we’ve seen time and time again. I honestly reckon that our football at the moment is so good people are having to create things to moan about to get their daily fill

Discussion around off-pitch issues shouldn't stop because the team are doing well on the pitch. Everyone is obviously delighted about how things are going under DB, but you simply can't ignore the fact that while other clubs have progressed over the last decade (you could even look across the last three decades tbh) we're in the fifth tier with crowds that are really quite low.

You say that we have plans to increase attendances, and I'm sure we do. But plans never really seem be stuck to long-term at Barnet, often because the turnover of staff is so high. So I won't hold my breath on that front.

Hopefully the team's performances will result in bigger crowds, like you suggest, but monitoring other clubs' engagement techniques and trying to hold Barnet to a similar standard isn't unreasonable, in my opinion.

As a club we have given tickets to schools
For years. Not sure it has achieved much.

Always good to see what successful former non league clubs are doing around us for ideas.

I live in Hitchin and obviously try hard to ignore Stevenage. But this Saturday pretty much every member of my son’s U11 football team is going to the Lamex as a group. They’ll be a guard of honour (bleurgh) and get to kick around on the pitch beforehand. Maybe some other elements too - for £15 a head, with £15 adult tickets for parents and cheap tickets for siblings.

It’s a good offer and the kind of thing that can win over even the sneery PL-obsessed kids of today. Luckily we have to go to a family event on Sat so letting my son go was never an option.

Meanwhile I can’t get him to come to Barnet these days. “I just don’t like the whole experience,” was his last explanation.
