RECKLESS FAMILY GOODY CORNER

Post: # 364111Post Reckless »

So.......here we go again it comes around so fast,..............Remember years ago and all those really scummy things that were only available at Christmas time?
The Reckless Family Goody Corner was started by my Dad when I was a kiddie. There were Satsuma Oranges, Mixed Nuts, Eat Me Dates and Chocs but we were not allowed to touch anything until Christmas Eve. I have keep the tradition going reserving a space on a worktop - although the bits are kept in the sideboard for a while yet to resist temptation
Now, nothing posh is required you understand as that spoils it - no Hampers from M&S or Harrods and Fortnam & Mason gift boxes just stuff you can scoff and pig out on and not worry about waistlines, fillings or cholesterol for a week or two.
It will expand very quickly and as always I invite suggestions and hope there will be the normal annual "Battle of the Twiglets v Cheese Balls" debate.
Happy Christmas to all Barnet fans everywhere - here's to a weight gain of 6lbs and a new year Dentist appointment.
Happy Xmas - Reckless.

So far after a visit to Tesco in Poo Bar today....
TIN OF QUALITY STREET
(These were never available in Enfailed as they are made for sharing)
THREE PACK FRYS CHOCOLATE CREAM - Marvelous
THREE PACK OF TURKISH DELIGHT - The other Ultimate Choc bar, but can understand the critics
ADVOCAART - Never could spell it.
PANETELLA CAKE

Already have 2 tins of Cheese Footballs, in case there is the usual shortage because they are so popular.

Anything with chocolate, white preferably. My top 3 for brevity:

Terry’s white chocolate orange - only do em at Christmas
Toblerone white chocolate large bar -
Brazil nuts coated with plain dark chocolate - sadly afaik these don’t come in white chocolate

There was a debate on the radio about why cheese footballs are only available at Christmas. Don't think there was a definitive answer.

Anywhoo... I've just added a nice pack of orange and lemon jelly segments to the festive pile, which seems to have started accumulating a lot earlier this year!
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Arguably there could also be a debate about why dates, twiglets and orange and lemon jelly segments are only available at Christmas. My argument would be that they’re all bloody horrible 🤢🤣🤣

Does anyone still make hot chestnuts? When a youngster (just before the Romans left our land) at Christmas my family used to have two cooked variants that tasted differently. One grilled/roasted type and the other was boiled and much softer to eat.
