The worst decisions were made a couple of years ago to extend the regional National league divisions to 24 teams so to reduce all 3 back to 22 would see some extreme measures such as 6 teams down from NL & 5 down from NLN & NLS as otherwise you would only promote 1 & not have any playoffs in NLN & NLS! The NW counties running with 24 was due to teams objecting to being moved southwards to the Midland league! Leagues at that level are supposed to run with 20 clubs so clubs on boundaries of league will constantly be subject to lateral transfers which they may object to!!

If the FA and the NWCFL grew some bollocks in the first place, the problem wouldn't exist. The majority of this league is now based either close to, or north of, the M62 corridor, so some or all of the 5 teams south of that line (the 2 Wythenshawe teams, Glossop, West Didsbury and Cheadle) should have been kicked out, even if that meant further expanding the regional footprint of the Northern Counties East League and/or the Midland League. Instead, Glossop in particular whinged about travel distances and catchment areas for their players, and got away with it.

We now have a situation where both Colne and Charnock Richard have each got to play 9 league matches in the last 14 days but it won't happen... Colne play on top of a hill above the town and have an Underhill-sized slope, their pitch looks like a sandy beach just as the tide's coming in, and it continues to piss down every single day up here. Colne have already moved one of their matches, against the Isle of Man, to Ilkley next Friday as they have a plastic pitch. That one will be like groundhopper-porn for some people...

Was it Hendon who once got told two play 2 league games on the last day of the season? Mr Erroll will know.....

3 games , 2 were postponed due to lack of available stewards and never played - the date 5/5/2001! a horrible date that will always be stuck in my mind!

I have followed the fortunes of Wisbech Town for the past 40 years. When they won promotion from the United Counties League, they were placed in a Northern Premier League division that involved trips to Morpeth and Marske. Needless to say, the bulk of their better players decided they could pick up the same (or better) money without the hassle of the travel. The following season saw NPL reorganization, which saw them heading to Market Drayton. After a couple of seasons that succumbed to Covid, they were finally relegated back to the UCL and are happy to be there. The secretary (a friend of mine) said they knew any aspirations were wrecked the minute they saw the line-up for that first NPL season.

I see Truro City are playing tonight ( loosing 0-2 ). Then there got game at home Wednesday against Eastbourns, and Thursday against Yeovil, that's beyond insane, I except there pitch maybe poor, but they cannot be responsible for the weather, were is leagues player welfare.

The pitch at Plymouth Parkway struggled to cope with 1 team playing on it let alone 2! have a look at the majority of teams with huge backlogs its due having ground sharers *85%ers the exception! Pitches need recovery time same as footballers!

Sorry John but this is just not the case. At the time of their promotion from the Southern League last year, Truro had a groundshare agreement in place with Plymouth Parkway which satisfied the demands of both the National League and the Southern League. They were groundsharing, just like loads of other clubs across England, so to say they shouldn't have been promoted is nonsense, unless you intend to ban all promotions across all leagues for all clubs who groundshare, which, as you're aware, would wipe out scores of chances of promotions nationwide??

It's also simply not true that the majority of teams with huge backlogs are groundsharing. Some of the worst - Taunton, Colne, Charnock Richard and Ashville, not to mention half of the teams in the Western League - don't groundshare at all but have suffered from incessant rainfall for months now which amateur pitches cannot cope with. The Western League has struggled with just 18 teams and 34 matches to be played, so it's hardly surprising that the North West Counties, the Northern League have had such problems. Simple fact is, it's pissed down in the South West and the North for months. The Northern League was still having games postponed at the start of April, the only groundsharers up there are on an artificial pitch.
