Re: Goals and assists tally this season. (All competitions).
This really wasn't meant to be all about Kanu, but I can understand why it's gone that way.
To add some more fuel to the fire, it should be added that he has completed the 2nd most successful dribbles in the league, (not too shabby while playing at WB), with 27 successful dribbles, 2nd only to Andrew Oluwabori of Halifax on 31.
As if that wasn't enough, his dribbling success rate is 79%, (compared to Oluwabori at 78%), and only Dion Pereira of Daggers is better than him, (of regular dribblers), at 90%, (although he's made 1 less successful dribble at 26).
You have to go down to the likes of Jacob Butterfield (Gateshead), and Matt Ward (Woking), to find someone at +90%, and they are only averaging 3 dribbles per game, which is significantly down on Kanu at 5.4, Oluwabori 6.2 & Pereira 5.2.
To be absolutely clear then, he is actually doing a really good job of beating his man, but it's what comes next that's the problem. I personally think that the absence of Nicke will have impacted that, but he obviously was still there for the opening 2 games of the season so maybe his absence is less significant than I might claim.
What I would say though is that from my part, the 1st thing that comes to mind when thinking of Kanu's crossing this season is that far too many have been overhit, (and I think it unreasonable to expect Coker to be getting on the end of them at the far post in the same that that I think Kanu SHOULD be getting on the end of Coker's overhit crosses simply because Kanu has the athletic ability to get there. Perhaps, (as others have mentioned), his workrate in carrying out his defensive duties is having an impact on his ability to get forward at key moments?
I think this is DB's problem to solve and if Nicke isn't in the team and crossing isn't the answer, then we've got to be flooding the area with players looking for a cut-back rather than a cross. At the moment it seems like even when Kanu beats his mand AND beats the 1st man with the cross, that even if he doesn't overhit it then Stead is unlikely to get to the ball 1st and get a shot off. We need him, (and those around him), to be a bit smarter.
We should expect Kanu to beat his man, (because he's doing so 79 of the time, but I don't think we should expect him to be able to pick out Steady and his best crosses I've seen are one's that have been fizzed into an area for someone to attack, (and Nicke is good at attacking them), but Steady a little less so.
The other thing I'd like Idris to do is to not cross it at all, and just keep running with it, dummy the cross, cut inside onto his other foot, (even his weaker left), and just get a shot off, (or just as likely be fouled). Don't just run at them, beat his man and then put a rubbish cross in, run at them, beat his man and then run at them some more, (even if they get back and make a brilliant tackle). Just tell him to run at them and keep running at them. Can you imagine the absolute havoc he would cause?
Anyway, fingers crossed he plays on the left at the weekend because I honestly think he will fill his boots if he does.

Kanu gets his 1st attacking return.
Glover with a goal and 2 assists already.
Chapman with 2 goals and an assist already.
Brunty joint top goal-scorer.
If this is what we can do with no fit striker, then God help everyone when we get Kabamba, Browne & Wilkinson fit and firing.

Both Chapman's look awfully similar to me.

Not a goal or assist, but Hartigan is #1 in the league pass completion table.
Re: Goals and assists tally this season. (All competitions).
I also guess if you looked at the pass before the assist Hartigan and Brunt would be dominant.
Re: Goals and assists tally this season. (All competitions).
Says a lot about Woodball if Ashmore made 296 final 3rd 'passes'

2 penalties. Surprised that we haven't been awarded more, (although we should have had 1 against Alty).
Set-pieces. By this stage last season, DC probably had 5 goals on his own from attacking set-pieces. Delivery looks good but we're not getting on the end of them. Missing Nicke's presence? Are we a small side without Nicke though? Stead, Brunt, Chapman, Harts, Glover +other WB all short. Just left with 3 centre-backs + 6'0" Shelton as "big" targets". Tavares playing in midfield helps, as does Cropper playing at WB.
Harry Chapman has only started 5 games (+4 from bench), but is already prominent in our goal involvements. He's only played 480 mins, (averaging a goal involvement every 80 mins), compared to 108 mins per involvement for Stead and 126 mins per involvement for Brunty and 154 mins for Glover.

The Glover goal is definitely an own-goal I’m afraid!
Nice spread of goalscorers and assist makers!

I took it from BBC I think. They gave it to him so.....rudebwoyben wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 22:00 The Glover goal is definitely an own-goal I’m afraid!

FBREF gave him the goal too.
Just checked and Soccerway and transfermarkt sites and they've also given him the goal.
The Stead headed goal from the Hayes assist was probably an OG I think, but again the BBC gave the goal to him and then it was changed afterwards but I couldn't be bothered to change mine so I've just left it as is.

I know that they’ve given it to him but that’s just laughable. The ball wouldn’t have gone in without the defender’s intervention.

Barnet goals after game 10, (the 85%ers game). 22 goals.
Stead 6.
Brunty 4.

1 of the previous discussion points was the lack of goals scored from corners, so it was good to see Stead get 1 against 85%ers, (albeit 2nd phase).
We've already had 8 different goal-scorers, (9 if you include OG), and that's without a defender scoring from a set-piece or Harts scoring a direct free-kick, (which will surely come).
Does Shelts continue to take pens once Nicke is on the pitch?

Re: Goals and assists tally this season. (All competitions).
Lots of involvement from several different players bodes well. We're not overly reliant on one player carrying us.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!
