Altrincham (Hive) The Alty Small Things Match Thread
So.... Tuesday sees the bees return to Hive comforts as we take on Altrincham in our latest Banarama fixture.
With 3 Hive wins 3 Away defeats and one Away win against the league's whipping boys it is fair to say it has not been the flying start we were hoping for. But with a tough run of fixtures and a much changed team a rough start was always possible.
For Alty, losing Chris Conn-Clarke to the National League rummagers from up the A1 will have been a big set back although they have also strengthened. They have had a similarly mixed start to the season and will be hoping to take advantage of our temporary weakness and our long trip to Gateshead with 17 fit players.
The manor of Deano's post match interview suggests he knows what to do to address the problem however given we have spent the last two years getting out muscled and out thought by the top teams with leaky defences, profligate strikers and no options from the bench, frankly there seems to be a vast difference between him knowing what needs to be done and actually doing something about it. The chief problem is Kabamba is in his mid thirties and seems more injury prone and we can't ask Stead to keep running through brick walls with no backup. We know this, he knows this and yet we keep signing centre backs like they are going out of fashion. Unless the next centre back we sign is the reincarnation of Paul Warhurst I would respectfully suggest the option available is to sign a striker who can play in the target man role and to cut the fat from this hideously bloated squad.
Feels odd to be this negative after we won 7-0 a mere week ago but I can see the automatic place slipping from our fingers which is our only realistic means of promotion given Brennan turns in to Rossi Eames in the Playoffs and we need to do something about it. Now.
Another thing, and whisper it quietly as I don't want captain starjump back for Altrincham after last season but Hayes is looking a bit shaky and like a downgrade from Laurie Walker.
In terms of team lineup we have 11 players Brennan trusts so I guess they will be trotted out again.

----------------------------Chapman---------Brunt----------------------------------

Subs: Gilmore, Rye, Okimo, Cropper, Wilkinson, Kanu, Emery
I will be at this one. Hoping we can get back to winning ways or at least stop conceding daft goals and keep a clean sheet.

Can we really accept the “hard start” narrative? I’m not having it at all I’m afraid - 3 of the bottom 4, a Southend side that are not living up to expectations & haven’t really strengthened, a very average Halifax side, Gateshead & FGR fair enough (although I’d argue playing FGR early was to our benefit).
Shame to not even see Kabamba on the bench Saturday so doubt we’ll see him tomorrow.

Of course it's a tough start. Of the 4 other teams I'd expected to be title challengers, we have played 3 of them in our first 7 games.PBBee wrote: ↑09 Sep 2024, 17:03 Can we really accept the “hard start” narrative? Conversely we have also played Ebbsfleet, Maidenhead and Tamworth who occupy 3 of the 4 relegation places.WestHampsteadBee wrote: ↑09 Sep 2024, 18:38Of course it's a tough start. I'd say it was a reasonable mix of fixtures.

People seem to forget Halifax made the play offs as well last season, Halifax was never a guarnteed 3 points.

Don't think they have won since playing us.letchbee94 wrote: ↑09 Sep 2024, 19:39 People seem to forget Halifax made the play offs as well last season, Halifax was never a guarnteed 3 points.

Everyone on their day (apart from possibly Ebbsfleet) can beat anyone....

Would be nice to get a proper update on the injuries and how long they're going to be out for etc.
Re: Altrincham (Hive) The Alty Small Things Match Thread
Agreed - keep hoping to see Kabamba back on the bench. Browne was stated at 4-5 weeks at one point so that wouldn't be far off either.
Guess we'll never see Nartey again, a gamble that didn't pay off but I was excited about him after the Southend game & 3 wins on the bounce.

What do you mean we’ll never see Nartey again?PBBee wrote:Agreed - keep hoping to see Kabamba back on the bench. Browne was stated at 4-5 weeks at one point so that wouldn't be far off either.
