I might have it! I can check my collection. I still have some VHS's that I haven't digitized. I think I have a tape with a FA Cup match against Woking that was on Sky amongst other things. I'll see what I can find.

Kenny Lowe. and of course The tanned God Sir Nicky Evans The list goes on and on. How many of today's team would get in these teams from say 91 to 96. Not many.possibly Loach. Sweeney. Even Jack Taylor would struggle.
Couldn't disagree with this more.

The physical abilities of player are on a completely different level to those even as recently as back in the 90's. I'm not silly enough to suggest that players of the 90's wouldn't be able to play in the modern game, (of course they would), but they would because they would also be so much fitter and quicker and stronger.

But make no mistake, if you take any team from back in the 90's and put them up against an equivalent level team today..... the 90's team are getting stuffed. It's not even close.

In the 90s players were still eating fry ups before games.

And smoking.

Arsene Wenger was considered eccentric when he came along with his healthy ideas.

I think the quality of non-league (and football is general) is on a completely different level to that I watched as a kid 20 years ago.

The tennis heading, scrappiness and hoofs are minimal and there is way more sophistication to the play as well as general fitness involved. It's been an absolute pleasure to watch Barnet this year, technically the best I think I've ever seen.

Would the 24/25 squad beat the 04/05 or 14/15 teams? That's the question. I think they would tire them both out and win by a couple.

100%. It’s not even up for debate. Our team now would beat the team 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 40 years ago whatever you want. Don’t think it would even be a close game.

Would be interesting to see some stats on how much of the game is now played on the ground as opposed to the air over the last 2 decades.

Playing it out of the back under severe pressure was completely unheard of growing up. I think if you transported a footy fan from 04 to 24, they'd be pleasantly shocked at what they'd be watching.

It's a pointless exercise trying to compare players and teams from different eras. The game is completely different now to even the Fry teams of the late eighties and early nineties.

As much as people can say this current team would wipe the floor with a team that contained the likes of Bull, Showler, Lowe, Wilson, Barnett, that sees it through the perspective of the game today. Good luck playing at such a pace on heavy pitches after a couple of reducers, and only able to make 2 subs. It would be a car crash seeing Chapman or Brunt trying to put their foot on the ball with Paul Wilson approaching from behind.
I want to be good, is that not enough.

The current players would beat the players of the past because they are now vastly fitter and far more tactically aware. That's not a criticism of past players, it's simply how everything has evolved.

The players of the past also would struggle to cope with the current standards in refereeing. In the past, it was almost impossible for players to be sent off, despite the actions of the likes of Ron "Chopper" Harris, Norman "Bites your Legs " Hunter, etc. Players like Gary Lineker could go a whole career without being booked but these days a player so much as breathes on an opponent and is shown a yellow. Or maybe Lineker never put in anything remotely resembling a tackle?

In those days with no/ minimal subs and anything goes tactics, players were routinely given injections pre match to get them through the 90 minutes. They then often ended up after retirement with serious health issues. How could that have ever been acceptable?

The game is far better all round these days. People who say otherwise are just looking through their rose tinted spectacles.

For a start Hendo wouldn't be on the pitch for more then 5 minutes.

There’s a fun game; pick your ultimate Barnet XI of ex players but in DB’s system

I got stuck on the ‘keeper.
That position has changed so much in recent years…the sweeper-keeper….playing out from the back (no big kicks out)… the latest craze of palming the ball rather than catching it.
We have had so many good ‘keepers over the years but I can’t think of one who would suit DB’s tactics.
