Still, if we do well on the pitch, it probably won't matter.
Agree!

And which one will be allowed to wear at Blundell Park?

Grimsby play in black and white stripes so where's the problem?

Looks pretty good and probably better in the flesh.

Perhaps for the away shirt, I would have swapped around the purple and white so more purple dominant.

Stanno and Jako both produced some decent kits. I do not wax lyrical about the Hummel ones - the black and goal one was not great quality at all.

Surely a fan vote would, by definition, satisfy the greatest number of people, because the kit would correspond to the most popular option? Currently, it is (presumably) only based on the opinion of one person, which seems far less less democratic

I don't think it's unreasonable to want a degree of creativity / a bespoke quality to our kit designs. While this year's shirts aren't necessarily bad (there are much worse out there!), plenty of clubs up and down the pyramid are producing far more stylish options. Umbro and Hummel, in particular, are kit designers that seem to do a good job at this. There's arguably a solid business case for breaking the mould a bit, too, because fresh new designs will surely sell better than kits that are similar in look to previous years.
A fan vote would only satisfy the majority if there were only 2 options. Make it more than that and even if there is a majority, it might well not be by much.

Why do we need to break the mould and have something very different? Many other clubs, especially the top clubs have almost the same shirt every season, just a minor alteration on the collar or suchlike. They still sell this season's strip.

I don’t think this is a battle you need to have Becbee. You don’t have to defend the club on absolutely everything. You said previously you think it’s ‘fine’, which to me, means you don’t really have an opinion and deem a kit not too important. To others the kit is the true identity of the club. I would rather see something completely outlandish and not like it, over rolling out a safe, same old kit that was picked in ten minutes that looks fine.

I'm not having a battle with you Beesting and I certainly don't feel the need to defend the club on everything - didn't you see my moans about ST renewal for example? I didn't like the LED advertising either - I soon got used to it but would still prefer not to have it. Etc etc.
In fact the kit is important to me. I hated it the season we worn black pinstripes and the season we wore that dull brown kit with the laced neckline. I'm anxious every year about the strip before it's released for fear it'll be a return to a depressingly dull kit. However in recent seasons we've had a bright strip which in my opinion is pleasant . If I were designing it myself I might well chose slightly different but as I'm not, then it's fine.
Let's just agree to differ.

It's impossible to please everyone when it comes to choosing a jersey. I can't remember who started this “fashion” of cut stripes, but I don't think it's been a great success. Still, many people around the world have adopted it. Like a number of people, I don't like it at all, but what can you do? There's no doubt that a consultation of the fans would make it possible to satisfy as many people as possible, but there will always be those who are unhappy. Personally, I'm all for going back to basics and rediscovering the spirit of yesteryear. But if at the end of the season we find ourselves in League One, it's certain that the shirt won't matter any more.

I just saw the new strip in the club shop. It doesn’t look bad, it doesn’t look amazing.
Time always changes our perception of past strips the team has worn and I have no doubt that if we have a successful season it will be fondly remembered!

I will be wearing my shirt with pride in my sessions with the Senior Spireites Walking Football Club ( officially the 1st walking football team in the world ) .... the only flash of orange in a mostly blue ( with the occasional Sheffield Utd, Weds and Leeds ) backdrop !

like I said, I just feel other clubs take a more modern approach and considerations when it comes to kit design to reflect their fanbase, visual or cultural identity, community et al. Even storytelling.

Take Arsenal’s Piccadilly Line pattern training kit and their Jamaican colours to reflect the multiculturalism of the area. Genius

Forest Green Rovers using Reflo, a supplier who put sustainability at the heart of their designs.

Exeter’s third 2023/24 third kit was inspired by Devon’s mining heritage, with a black and copper design.

AFC Wimbledon and Dulwich Hamlet also with historical considerations and explanation of their designs. AFC being influenced by the 90’s and Dulwich Hamlet working with the initial idea of revamping the 1925/26 kit. See below.

It’s also nice to see actual supporters launching the kits in usual community surroundings.
Come to think of it, it would have been great to have launched the kits on Barnet Playing Fields to highlight the move. Or a nod to New Underhill in the actual kit design could have been clever. You can make impactful statements like this, you know. Don’t underestimate the reach these things can achieve.

I’m also not saying we should carbon copy any of these clubs ideas. It’s just the approach, process and consideration is lacking here where other clubs are great at it.

The last time I felt we did put significant consideration in design was the 2007 Underhill centenary home shirt and the 2005 Carling Cup one off Purple kit against Man Utd. Speaking of which, did this kick start us reusing purple as an away colour? Because throughout the 90’s green was often used.

It may seem futile to many of a certain generation but I think it’s something many supporters under 30 would embrace and enjoy. Given that we want to grow our fanbase with youngsters, it’s quite important to consider in my opinion.

In my opinion the kit looks so much nicer in person - I wasn’t a huge fan but having seen it up close I am considering getting one.

Affinity with a kit grows over the season for me. It starts with watching the team wearing it week in week out... then you gradually see it being worn by more and more fans on the terraces.

Before you know it majority of fans in colours are wearing the new kit.

You don't think at all about previous kits as the business end of the season begins.

Then in the pre-season lull another kit discussion thread begins and we are back where we started again!!
