University Double Header
University Double Header
Saw this on Facebook - seems THL is hosting the both the mens & womens (first time ever played at the same venue) Oxford v Cambridge varsity football matches next month. http://oxfordstudent.com/2017/02/06/fir ... announced/
Not ideal for our pitch.

Re: University Double Header
Well done TK for this initiative! It should bring in a fair few quid into the coffers as well not to mention some good publicity!
I love Luisma & really miss his skils!
Re: University Double Header
Completely disinterested. Elitist claptrap. There are more than 2 Universities, many with a better sporting heritage. The indulgence of Oxbridge has got to stop!
End of rant.

Re: University Double Header
Should be a money spinner. Just hope the bar staff can learn to pour Bollinger into flutes.
Re: University Double Header
We are at Notts County that day so it won't concern us. The pitch will have 6 days to recover before our home match v Cheltenham. Although the state of their pitch is second only to Newport's so if ours hasn't recovered, it would give them an advantage.
Re: University Double Header
Should be at Craven Cottage on day of boat race. End of.

I remember when the men's Varsity football match used to be held at Wembley...

I agree in terms of levels of interest. None from me, despite living in Cambridge.hoofer2 wrote:Completely disinterested. Elitist claptrap. There are more than 2 Universities, many with a better sporting heritage. The indulgence of Oxbridge has got to stop!

However, fact is that for whatever reason the levels of interest remain and I am quite happy to see the club cash in on it. It's money in for the club and also a way for them to show case the facilities at the Hive. You never know, a handful of people who come may end up coming back.

I really can't think of any reason why we shouldn't host this Traditional game. I would jump at it if I was TK.

All money for the club on a day when the ground would otherwise lie idle.
Re: University Double Header
I don't think its a particularity big crowd. Certainly no big crowd bonanza bonus.

200/300 students all drinking at Hive prices ain't to be sniffed at on a day that would otherwise be pretty dead.BEEGONE wrote:I don't think its a particularity big crowd. Certainly no big crowd bonanza bonus.

Apparently Fulham turned down hosting this event because they are in negotiations with Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana to host a friendly match the following week.
I am surprised TK has not approached international teams that are looking for a ground to host friendly matches...

With the growth of communities from many different African countries outside of the Anglophone ones such as Ghana and Nigeria, there's surely opportunity there. The Rwandan, Cameroonian, DR Congo and Angolan communities in London have all grown massively in the last couple of decades.BeeSuperEagle wrote:Apparently Fulham turned down hosting this event because they are in negotiations with Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana to host a friendly match the following week.
