Striker signing anxiety
Re: Striker signing anxiety
Three days without any further activity on this thread! Have we all given up hope of getting the mythical 'unicorn' striker?

Que sera sera. If it happens it will be a nice surprise. It will be no surprise if it doesn't. Think we will now have to wait for the EFL transfer window to shut before any action is taken - if indeed there is going to be any.

I had relatively high expectations. I don't anymore.
My expectation now is simply to know are we sticking or twisting, as we'd quite like to sponsor a player and had been waiting for the number 9!

Perhaps this season has been written off already and we will have to wait until next season so DC can cull the squad further and get in who he wants and spend the budget wisely on yearly contracts not 2 or 3
Re: Striker signing anxiety
Most decent, proven players will only sign on a minimum 2 year deal. You’ll only get unproven, or injury prone players on a one year deal.simples169 wrote:Perhaps this season has been written off already and we will have to wait until next season so DC can cull the squad further and get in who he wants and spend the budget wisely on yearly contracts not 2 or 3

I would hope not.simples169 wrote:Perhaps this season has been written off already and we will have to wait until next season so DC can cull the squad further and get in who he wants and spend the budget wisely on yearly contracts not 2 or 3

This Saturday we’re surely lining up against the one that got away. JJ Hooper scored goals at Bromley last year like they were going out of fashion. Very definitely a ‘number 9’. London born and bred. Would be surprised if he wasn’t one of the ones Currie says he’s ‘been in for,’ but hasn’t been able to sign.
Re: Striker signing anxiety
You have to question the ambition of this club, a similar situation arose the year we went down. We were well adrift coming up to the January transfer window, we all felt if we could just keep in touch until then, we could bring in a couple of players to give us a decent chance.
And instead we waited till the end of January to sign a couple of players that made no impact. Now we have a different kind of situation that is being treated the same way. most of us believe we have a strong enough squad to make the play-offs and feel one decent striker will give us a great chance. So it's all very deja vu.

Junior Agogo would have been perfect to complete this team. RIP

Either DC is dithering or being too picky (playing hunt the unicorn). It would be interesting to know how many "targets" have turned him down and how many he has rejected. The end of the EFL transfer window is now the best hope.

Or its down to finance. I know he turned down a player who had been banded about a lot on here, and there was a player he wanted of real quality who ended up in League 2 - no doubt on better money.Norfolkbee wrote:Either DC is dithering or being too picky
Based on the fact that both signings so far have really added quality to the side I have no issue with Darren only wanting to bring in players who will really make a difference. My issue is, if we are missing out due to money, maybe by £200 a week, circa £10k per year then its really frustrating. Whilst I appreciate the chairman has a budget he wants DC to work to but surely the last piece of the jigsaw is worth stretching for if it could mean promotion or at least being up the right end.

I think somebody asked DC about Fondop on Saturday after the game and I believe he had a good look at him prior to him signing for Chesterfield.barnetpete wrote:Or its down to finance. The opinion i’ve been given by others outside Barnet and even read on here by one or two is that he can do an Akurang and then be anonymous for a run of games. It’ll be interesting to see if Fondop continues his good start

Interesting he looked at Fondop, I wasn't referring to him though.

Re: Striker signing anxiety
A friend of mine in the Midlands told me that he was close to signing a striker on loan from Leicester City, who ended up going to a League Two club.
Re: Striker signing anxiety
This indecisiveness is going to cost a place in the Football League, which is unforgivable. We could be 10 points off of top spot come Monday evening just because our manager can't make his mind up and / or persuade his chairman to stump required the cash up.
If we had Martin Allen in charge, he would have had his man in place on the first day of pre season because he wouldn't have taken no as an answer from TK.
