National League club Barnet have responded to the suspension of football during the coronavirus crisis by putting all the club’s non-playing staff on immediate notice of redundancy. The club’s owner, the businessman Tony Kleanthous, told the Guardian there are approximately 60 employees being laid off, and he was holding meetings with them all on Tuesday.
Kleanthous said that as players’ contracts are protected in football and cannot be terminated early, clubs’ general employees are the ones vulnerable, and with no money coming in, he said he had no choice but to lay everybody off. He called on the Football Association to give more leadership in the crisis, and for the Premier League to set up financial assistance for clubs lower down the football pyramid.

Worrying News
Following on from the topic that was raised regarding the tweet that academy staff have been served notice I have had a worrying conversation with someone who has eluded to me that the notice to staff is not just to academy staff but all football staff INCLUDING DARREN & HIS STAFF. it won’t be announced as he’s let go the media team too!
Not only that there are talks of the club going part time next season which signals just how much TK values this football club & the ambition he really has! As many have stated before it is obvious all TK is interested in is weddings, motorbike lessons & Spurs ladies! I fear this really is the end for my beloved Barnet! TK dipped the soul out when he took us from underhill but now it feels as if he’s well truly ripped the heart out!!!
It seems like so many clubs that we should be competing with make strides forward to compete & progress yet we’re constantly going backward because of TKs leadership (lack of) & meddling ways!
With regards to the academy without it we wouldn’t have Elliot J, Mauro, Wes, EMC, Harry T or benefitted from the sale of Jack T had the luxury of Luke Gambin. This helps saves money & from what I hear has never cost TK a penny due to funding & other activities the academy do to make money to break even!
I am certainly concerned for what the future holds for my club

Selling the story before any sign of a club statement.

He’s given notice to all non playing staff so presumably the only person left to issue a club statement is him ?BeeDeceived wrote:Selling the story before any sign of a club statement.

Why has this been leaked to the Guardian before any announcement from the club?

You really think that anyone would 'pay' for this story!BeeDeceived wrote:Selling the story before any sign of a club statement.

We know that our media people don't even get London Living Wage. If they have all gone, it's a massive mistake.

Pretty sure that a lot of clubs at our level are going the same process now. We’re just the first ones to announce it.

Thanks just noticed this, although still odd that David Conn reported this first.rudebwoyben wrote:The club has just released a lengthy statement just now.#Beebot wrote:Why has this been leaked to the Guardian before any announcement from the club?

Sadly this is true. I think everyone is angry and upset right now but we're looking at restrictions on mass gatherings for 12-18 months now and something has to give.rudebwoyben wrote:Pretty sure that a lot of clubs at our level are going the same process now. Yes, most of the initial reaction on Twitter to the club’s announcement is far too hasty and shows that people haven’t realised that in our late-capitalist economy most small businesses’ viability rest on extremely shaky foundations and that without any sort of dependable cash-flow in sight for several months headcount and costs will have to be drastically reduced immediately.#Beebot wrote:Sadly this is true. Better David Conn than just about any other football journalist.#Beebot wrote:Thanks just noticed this, although still odd that David Conn reported this first.rudebwoyben wrote:The club has just released a lengthy statement just now.#Beebot wrote:Why has this been leaked to the Guardian before any announcement from the club?
