Should have been recognised many years ago. As you can see from the profile picture I have used from the day I joined this forum he is one of my all time favourite players from watching him as a young lad at White Hart Lane. Jimmy and Alan Gilzean being the best partnership I have ever witnessed, ( just ahead of Carter and Bull!). Thoroughly deserved, well done Jimmy.

Magnificent, Brilliant, Excellent.
Congratulations to Jimmy Greaves. I am proud to say I watched JG play for Barnet. His football career was incredible and he also excelled in his broadcasting career. He should have received this MBE decades ago.

long overdue recognition for the best English striker post World War 2. My favourite player ever who scored the best goal I have seen, against Leicester City at White Hart Lane.

Congratulations Jimmy. Top striker who had the agility and cheek to out fox a defence! Was so impressed when my mate had built up his reputation before I saw him play for Tottenham. Couldn’t believe my eyes when he turned out for Barnet too.
Anyone know how he missed out in the 66 World Cup so much? I believe it was an injury.

Taken from Wiki:
At the World Cup he played all three group games against Uruguay, Mexico and France, however, in the win against France, midfielder Joseph Bonnel raked his studs down Greaves's shin, causing a wound that required 14 stitches and left a permanent scar. His replacement for the quarter-final against Argentina, Geoff Hurst, scored the only goal of the game and kept his place all the way to the final, where Hurst scored a hat-trick as England won the tournament. Greaves was fit to play in the final, but manager Alf Ramsey opted against changing a winning team.

Thanks becbee funny, I can’t recall him playing in the group games at all or the France game. ! I guess television black and white coverage just wasn’t so graphic then. Just escaped my youngsters eyes.

Lets hope covid buggers off and Jim is in decent enough health to collect his MBE from the Queen at Buckingham palace.

That. Well deserved though and long overdue in my opinion like most others.

Agreed. Some people seem to get something for a year in the limelight whereas others have to put in years of work for minimal recognition.
