Sutton (Farnborough) The Match Thread Making Sutton Moves
So.… Saturday sees the bees travel to Cherrywood Lane to take on recently promoted Sutton United in our latest pre-season friendly.
After Swindon cancelled their match with us due to Covid-19/being a basket case club, Kewell has had an extra week to train with his players and build up fitness although the lack of match sharpness will be a worry.
Sutton under Matt Gray are a lesson for us about how a small, well run club with decent owners can be successful in this league and it is to be hoped that we are starting to learn the lessons of this after the disaster of last season. With the game moved to Farnborough due to Sutton who need to carry out excavation of their plastic pitch, the match will take place in the deep reaches of South West London, nearer to Basingstoke than Barnet.
It will be strange being back at Farnborough after all these years and being so brings back memories of sit in protests and a club sadly going to the wall under bad ownership. Agent Westley took some of the blame for this after he strip mined their best players to support his regime at the Chavs where density took over.
In terms of team line-ups given our recruitment I expect to see us persist with a 3-5-2 and expect to see something like the following:-
--------------------------------Tony Rialist---------------------------------------
-------Turley---------------Richards-Everton----------Greenidge-----------
--Thomas------------------------------------------------------------Doherty----
------------------Payne-------------Tsademir---------Brundle-----------------
----------------------Broomfield-------------Marriott---------------------------
Subs: Askew, Nugent, Beard, Mason-Clarke, Taylor, Granville, Vasilou, the Rialist family (do do do do)
I am doing this one by train. Come on you bees.

Interesting mention of fitness, Bee_Forever. I did think at the Posh game that a few of the team looked as though they could lose a bit of weight. It did seem that overall we lack speed.

Farnborough" in the deep reaches of SW London", they'll like that...

Looking forward to seeing Marriott again and hopefully the keeper who played in the 1st 75 mins last week might feature again.

Midday kick off. Extra £4 at the turnstile gets you into Farnborough v Maidenhead afterwards.

No Jordan Thomas or Mason Bloomfield. Has Thomas played in a friendly yet?

We’re having to borrow Sutton’s sub keeper after Askew got injured in the warm-up and we didn’t have another in the squad… Shame Callan isn’t involved.

Presumably the trialist starts then?LoringBee wrote:We’re having to borrow Sutton’s sub keeper after Askew got injured in the warm-up and we didn’t have another in the squad… Shame Callan isn’t involved.

We don’t seem to have one. From Sutton’s Twitter: “After the @BarnetFC keeper sustained an injury in warmup, Brad House will be stepping in between the sticks for the opposition.” Embarrassing really.#Beebot wrote:Presumably the trialist starts then?LoringBee wrote:We’re having to borrow Sutton’s sub keeper after Askew got injured in the warm-up and we didn’t have another in the squad… Shame Callan isn’t involved.

How strange. We couldn't find a single trialist keeper for today even though we need one anyway?LoringBee wrote:We don’t seem to have one. What has happened to Flanagan? HK says there are no injuries so he must be out of favour.
