Laurie Walker didn't put a foot wrong but I find it strange that the Solihull manager is quite so impressed. His comment gives the impression of one way traffic which certainly wasn't the case.
Yea agree it was open game.
Good to see us playing a part in it too, we can play good football when we want to

Went to y’day’s match as along with Yeovil it’s the closest for us nowadays after we moved away from London. Really good, decent quality game (like Yeovil’s). I also thought both teams played in the right spirit, each gave as good as they got. Solihull try to play good football, passing it around, no hoofing. Draw was a fair result. There were times in the first half I thought Solihull could run away with it and win by 3 or 4 but Walker pulled off 3 cracking saves. The one he tipped onto the post was something else – there was a nice touch before the resulting corner where the Solihull striker who’d hit the shot patted him, said something and they both smiled. While Solihull had the better of the first half Barnet still had some clear chances and it could have been 3-3.
Looks like Solihull’s manager sent their players out early for the 2nd half with a rollocking but if that was meant to set up an onslaught it never really happened. Barnet steadily worked their way into the 2nd half and had heaps of well carved out chances in the last 20 minutes. To be fair Solihull also went for it. Penalties get missed but it seemed like Gordon took the ball off another player who was thought he was going to take it.
Result was fair but a bit frustrating – Barnet seemed a bit timid at times, maybe lacking confidence, almost waiting to catch Solihull on the break. For the first season in a while we have some tricky, slick players – Shields, De Havilland and when they did step up the pace they had the giant Solihull centre backs struggling. Still, it’s a good draw away against the team that made the play off final, so what do I know about tactics.
I’ve been a Bees fan for 40 + years (gulp!) and I’d put Walker in the same category as Lomas/ Humphries as the best Bees keeper I’ve seen in that time. I’ve always had a save by Gary Phillips from Ricki Otto v Southend in 1994(I think) as the best save by a Barnet keeper but Walker’s matched that in both the Solihull and Yeovil games. It may be time for everyone to start rubbishing him if we want to keep him from going higher up the football food chain.
On the man of the match thing – their goalkeeper had an excellent 2nd half, the chances we didn’t convert were more down to good saves (tho’ not as spectacular as Walker’s) rather than bad misses by Bees players. Given the circumstances of the day they might have thought outside the box and shared the man of the match between the two keepers.

Think the ref was probably right not to send their keeper off. As I understand it following the ‘double jeopardy’ change to the laws, if a penalty is conceded following denial of a goal scoring opportunity, it’s only a red card offence if the defender was not making a genuine attempt to get the ball fairly. Going by the BT Sport highlights it looks like their keeper was trying to get the ball, but he just made a mess of it and clattered Kanu instead. It’s obviously a shame he didn’t get sent off, because that was a brilliant save from Gorman’s penalty.
I also learn from the highlights show that Solihull haven’t lost at home in 2022, so to come so close to winning there is a very decent effort. Just hope Kanu isn’t out for long. With Loza out for many months losing Kanu would be a huge setback.

But yes, it is good to have a solid keeper, also the support he gets from the players in front of him
I'm guessing he didn't mention Solihull keeper got MOM?
The interview on Twitter from Solihull was not from there manager but was from there coach James Quinn. Who has been with them for years.

Would have taken a point before and but for Gorman's limp penalty we could have nicked it but on balance of play I think a draw was fair.
Playing the extra defensive player did mean we sat deeper and hit on the counter but that suited us on the day.
Their right winger gave Okimo a tough afternoon as did Linesman Magoo in the first half.
Does come back to the fact if we had a proper striker then we would have finished our chances and had a better penalty option than Gorman.
With Sprinkler, The invisible man, and Kanu now injured we look light in attacking positions and hopefully this forces TK and Brennan to bring in the forward we desperately need rather than recalling Flanagan and Z Factor and hoping for the best.

Pritchard is a decent penalty taker. Should be in ahead of Gorman.

How do you know this? But I agree that he would be a good option as he is a very technical player. Did he take the penalties at Eastleigh?

Totally agree we need and should of had more than one striker, but to say we need a proper striker is at min not fair on Kabamba, according to reports and posts he caused a team that many believe will be in or around the play offs huge problems all afternoon. He is getting in great positions and also making chances, I believe he needs to be shown respect, agree he needs help, agree he is not a out and out goal scored but that is not his fault, and after just so few games judgement should be out until at least till xmas. Not having a strike partner is not Kabamba's fault, that lies with Brennan and TK.

He was Maidenhead's penalty taker after we signed Tarpey.

My post was not intended as a criticism of Kabamba.
He has played as a wide forward for a fair bit of his career including at his last club so he is not an out and out striker.
Brennan seems to like pacy forwards rather than out and out strikers but sometimes you need a player who is a natural finisher in the right place to finish chances.
Still not replaced the singing on fee chaser. Need to do so asap

Really encouraging impact from Kanu let’s hope it’s precautionary, seems like we would have missed him on international duty anyway according to DB
How did Phillips play bar the penalty and did Armstrong do much in his short cameo?

Was it as much this as the contract length that saw our leading goal scorer from last year depart? Sad if so.

Surely another factor was he believed we would have had another shambolic start based on previous seasons and did not see any suggestion things would improve. Also when Brennan didn't play him for a couple of games in Autumn / Winter when desperate for goals

Marriott has moved club every year for the last 6 years. No suggestion he would have accepted a longer contract and confirmation of my view of a fee chaser.
He is not the point. There are more strikers out there. Losing Marriott was on reflection inevitable

No he hasn't. He was at King's Lynn for a few years.
