World cup can village £175 per night TENT

Post: # 342802Post Roy57 »

I would not really bothered to mention the world cup I. Qatar. But on BBC sport web page there is video clip titled fan village £175 per night tent. I was stunned that a country as wealthy as Qatar could possibly even consider this as acceptable. They are plastic tents with two single beds, a bedside cabinet with lamp. Carpet which is over either sand or gravel. No air conditioning just a cheap fan. And a padlock is given to secure your tent for the duration of your stay. There is toilet blocks and showers but when you turn the tap on brown water comes out. How Fifa who must be aware of this think this is acceptable is beyond belief. You cannot sleep in these tents after 9am because of the temperature on the plastic tent. Total disgrace. Fifa should be embarassed. They spoke to a bloke from USA who had paid over 3.000 dollars and was so disgusted he was prepared to just walk away. I wonder how many supporters have been misled and believed they were staying in a hotel.

In 1966 I paid a total of £5-7s-6d (£5.37 1/2) for admission to ten World Cup matches including the final.

To be fair the USA fan has got Iran and Wales in his group so must be optimistic of a long stay.

Unfortunately I don’t have my tickets. I went to the final with another Barnet Supporter who is unfortunately no longer with us. We drove straight from Wembley to Cornwall for a holiday where we met up with 2 other Barnet supporters who went to most of the games but didn’t have tickets for the final. One of those is still a regular Bees supporter. Yet another supporter who is still a regular at the Hive was at the final had to leave at the end of 90 minutes because he had to get to the airport for his holiday.

Talking of the old days...were you or any other Bees fans at Underhill for the game against Qatar in 1977? Sounds fascinating and very random. Would love to know the story behind it and how the game came about.

I went to that, we won comfortably 4-0 from memory. They were in a short your and I think also played Brentford and maybe someone else. A small crowd, probably 0 away and the defenders weren't averse to a bit of spitting as was common amongst similar teams from that part of the world at that time. Don't think I have the programme anymore but at that price I think I'll check and offer for £99.99 if I have it...
