Talking of the Middlesex Senior Cup, if the England players need any inspiration before the knock-out stages of the World Cup, the full 3hrs 34mins of last season’s final triumph over the fake Bees B, including extra time and penalties, is available for their viewing pleasure on YouTube:

How did our team of mostly first team players lose against such lower level team? Ends our unbeaten run and zero goals against record.

No it doesn’t. Professional clubs do not treat county cups as first team competitions. Somehow even we managed to put out 10 players who did not start the last league game, despite our long injury list. Any goals scored would not have counted on players’ records.

I’d be surprised if the new bonus scheme for clean sheets, wins etc. applied last night, too!

The team we did put out should have been good enough to beat a team from three levels below, I suppose, but clearly it has no bearing on our unbeaten first team run.

Per the FA this was a first team game, but I'd agree that player contracts probably state otherwise for goal and appearance bonuses etc.

Not going to lose any sleep over going out of this competition.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Nor me.
If squad players need a game or two loan them out or arrange friendly matches.
Yesterday's game would, however, been useful experience for those youth players who were involved.
