Is Stead a target man? Based on how often he played in wider areas for Brackley, I assumed he was more of a potential partner for Kabamba, rather than another focal point.Bee_Forever wrote: ↑01 Aug 2023, 12:12He was good in spells for us but only really an requirement if Wynter goes.STAB wrote:Jordan Cropper is still available I think, would be a usefull addition to the squad
I think we have Stead and Kabamba as target men so need a pacy striker/winger like Kanu who can run off them.

Re: Transfer Targets??
Yeah, Stead’s a little chap who can play as a winger/wide forward, as he did at Brackley, or possibly as a striker in a front two, using his pace to get in behind as the little one in a big and small combination. Think that’s the role he played at Hitchin.
Certainly can’t see Stead as an alternative to Kabamba, playing as a lone striker or a focal point of the attack.
It’s not great that we’re heading into another season with Kabamba bearing so much of the attacking burden on his shoulders. I know most blamed it on Smith’s presence, but I think the fact that Kabamba had been the only striker option for so long is another reason why his goals dried up at the end of last season.
We were also fortunate with his form and fitness (which is mostly to his credit, but sometimes injury is simply unavoidable)
Meanwhile we’re already well served for wingers, with Kanu, Senior, Barratt (he played as a right sided winger/forward at York Rd vs us in the spring) and Stead by recent trade if necessary (although the friendlies and his comments suggest he’ll be playing more centrally)
Plus it seems that we’ll be using a 3-5-2 as our preferred formation, ie we won’t be playing with wingers.

Re: Transfer Targets??
With Dean stating in the Q & A meeting he was still after a holding midfielder and another striker it now seems unlikely we will be bringing in these players before Saturday's first home fixture. Yes it is frustrating but as mentioned before which I agree with bringing in the right players even after the season has started is more important than bringing in maybe not quite the right or good enough players before season opener. We have brought in the bulk of what was needed and improvement early which I felt was a must, as getting players in and having a pre season under there belts before the end of our pre season fixtures was so vital in us having a good season ahead
Re: Transfer Targets??
Granville out on loan to Beaconsfield until January. Would’ve thought this means a new CM is now lined up.
Re: Transfer Targets??
But even a couple of new signings will very unlikely have any change to out starting line-up Saturday
Re: Transfer Targets??
Surprised he couldn’t get a conference south team - been impressed with him in pre-season. But suppose he’s comfortable at Beaconsfield (like Potter coming back to us)Itsmeerc wrote:Granville out on loan to Beaconsfield until January. Would’ve thought this means a new CM is now lined up.
Re: Transfer Targets??
A definite message for Kleanthous from Brennan in his post-match interview tonight. Mentioned two or three times that Eastleigh got their draw, despite us having many more chances, because they’ve “invested in their strikers”…
Re: Transfer Targets??
When a team has scored 8 goals in their first 3 league matches, it suggests there's not a lot wrong in that department. It's the conceding 5 in 2 matches which needs looking into.
Re: Transfer Targets??
People are thinking back to last season and what happened when Nicke was sent off on boxing day which lead to us rushing into signing David Moyo. If the budget allows and the right player comes available then it makes sense to bring him in.
Re: Transfer Targets??
Yes, plus the fact that defending starts from the front. Kabamba works his socks off up front and starts ‘the press’ deep in the opposition half. If he’s flagging at 70-80 minutes after a huge shift or picks up a knock we really should have someone on the bench whom the manager trusts to bring on and help see things out until the 105th minute, occupying defenders, holding the ball up and retaining possession, possibly defending set pieces like Kabamba etc. as well as carrying a goal threat (I know, not much to ask!)
Re: Transfer Targets??
Completely agree but it's getting the right player. Moyo should never have been signed, not even as a stop gap. And then we signed Harry Smith, good player but just didn't suit the team.

Reckon we should see some movement in the next few days. EFL window closed, agents scrambling for clubs. We signed revan similar time last year
