Will be tough, but they certainly are not unbeatable. National league like the rest of us.

Unfortunately Chesterfield look the real deal and wouldn’t look out of place in League One. I don’t think that’s an inferiority complex, I think it’s the truth given their budget, manager, calibre of players and strength in depth. They absolutely should be winning this league.

But we know this team has character and resilience in abundance, and that’s cause for optimism. I’m excited for the game and I’d be thrilled with even a point just to help keep the pace, but if we lose you’d have to think that’s curtains for any title hopes.

I can go along with all this - except your final words. However impressive Chesterfield might be, however much it will give them an upper hand, they will not sew up the Championship if they win on Saturday. Whatever the result, Dean Brennan and this team will not throw in the towel and neither should we supporters. Still a very long way to go.
I hope you’re proven right. Besides I’m already annoyed by Chesterfield fans thinking they’ll ‘thump’ us, however much I might fear that outcome myself. 3 points on Saturday would be the sweetest in a long time.

I will be wearing amber colours… but will the players?
Plea to DB, please have our players wearing our home (ie our “true”) colours on Saturday.

I am not going to write off our chances just yet and think we can get at least a draw - providing some of our defensive core return and Gorman starts alongside Hartigan.

Control of midfield is going to be key for me. Need to avoid slack passes and balls that will be capitalised on.

What we have shown is resilience in depth, digging out results right at the last minute - as Chesterfield have had to too. Kabamba and Stead are a threat and know we have goals across the team.

I hope Kanu is played at wingback - he brings the ball away from defence like no other in the team. Needs to be supported sooner in final third.

COYB - a victory will be a great 50th Birthday present!

Looks close to a sell out in the home end as far as I can see.

Should be a good atmosphere!

What is also interesting from the above is that none of the 5 clubs top after 18 matches went on to be Champions. Bromley in 2019/20 dropped to 13th!

Chesterfield finished 2021/22 in 7th place, 20 points behind the eventual Champions. Although they did have the excuse of James Rowe being sacked in Feb when they were 2nd.

28 January 2023

"Nicke Kabamba struck a hat-trick as Barnet dealt a blow to Chesterfield's National League automatic promotion ambitions in north London.

The visitors went into the game on the back of four straight wins and looking to pile pressure on the two teams above them.

But fifth-placed Barnet, on fine form themselves after a run of seven games unbeaten, grabbed the lead when Kabamba poked home from close range just past the half-hour mark.

Chesterfield keeper Lucas Covolan saved superbly to deny Harry Pritchard, while Jeff King thought he had equalised with a deflected shot that was deemed not to have crossed the line.

After repelling a spell of Chesterfield pressure, Barnet seized the points with Kabamba making it two after 77 minutes before racing clear to complete his hat-trick five minutes from time"

That. Was. 10. Months. Ago.

We are a match for them and we have a manager who I would say is tactically superior to Paul Cook which will offset the squad depth issue.

I know it's fashionable to deal in absolutes and if you confidently predict defeat you don't risk anything if it happens but lets have some confidence in the boys. Walker, Collinge, Hartigan, Pritchard and Kabamba would walk in to their starting XI.

We can do this!

Or Peterborough away 99 which was also a top v 2nd game which we came out on top after being a goal down at ht.
What a match the Posh was. ! I think it was Marlon King who grabbed a brace. Me and my dear old departed Dad really enjoyed it.
Yea Marlon King with the 2 goals

Unlike at Bramall Lane, we'll be tightly packed into one corner. Atmosphere should be electric. 600 feels achievable between now and 3pm Sat.

Any recommendations for parking for those driving up? Nearby residential area? Assume at the ground itself it might be difficult with such a huge home crowd.
