Can we be confident should he be needed to step into the 1st team?
solid handling, had one hairy moment when he went walkabouts! would trust him as an in game sub but if Laurie was out for a while would expect a more senior loanee to be brought in.
Thanks. He is still young and serving his apprenticeship so, hopefully, will come good.

Absolutely, no question of his ability more his lack of experience if needed for a run of games. its catch 22 as only way he gets experience is by playing games so unless we loan him out and get another keeper in on loan i can't see how he gets that - thats a pitfall of not running a reserve team!

The only problem with having a reserve keeper who is trusted as an in game sub is when he's not on the bench to start with. 18 league matches this season, only 5 times have we named him on the bench.

I can see your point about sending him out on loan but it would hardly be in any other club's interests to loan us a keeper to replace him.

As a matter of interest, do any of the other NL clubs run a reserve team?

Locally Aldershot, Bromley, Dorking, Oxford City, Maidstone, Wealdstone, Woking all do. Chesterfield as well.

However these are mainly U23 teams and will have restrictions on over-age players

I looked on the Chesterfield O.S. before and could find no reference to a reserve side, only a Young Spirites team playing in the Youth Cup.

Brennan spoke about Gillmore's situation in his preseason Beespod interview. He said that, in an ideal world, we'd have 3 goalies and Gillmore would go out on loan to get experience. The problem will be finding a 'keeper who is both good enough to cover for Laurie if necessary and willing to sit on the bench.
