Yes. Next signing should be on the medical team. Will effectively be a new signing with player availabilityFredBee wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 07:07The Chesterfield fan I spoke to last week was very impressed with our RWB. Central midfielders - hartigan, Pritchard, Brunt, gorman, Armstrong - niet

We are strong in every position and only have two injuries. This is not the time.

I don’t think we need any but I do wonder if DB would consider another wing back as it does seem to be the area we get injuries the most - like I said I feel we are fine in that area but he may feel differently
It’s also interesting to get an opponents viewpoint as he also thought Senior looked very lively too.
I think rather than recruitment, TK needs to listen to DB regarding the muscle injuries and ensure there is enough support in the medical department

Do we need reinforcements ? If so who and what position ?

Re: Do we need reinforcements ? If so who and what position ?
Need to see more of Hooper playing but i'd be inclined to say we need another striker. Both he and Stead have looked better in that no.10 role in behind Nicke and if Nicke was to get injured we'd have to make big changes to the way we play in order to suit Stead (any maybe Hooper) as the focal point.
I also agree with what the Beespod boys said about having a player who'll run in behind. I know its not as vital this year given our more possession-based style but without RHJ who plays very high up and stretches teams at times it does slightly feel like everything will be played in front of the opposition defence.
We definitely need to let players go first, especially in defence. I'm pretty sure we can make 2 full back 5's and still have a couple of players spare based on the number of defenders we currently have.
However, it might be a case of waiting until after the January transfer window closes for EFL clubs and picking up the best of what's left like we did with Harry Smith last season.

The squad is fine... injuries could determine if need to bring in anyone else. That said - our front line has to be more clinical in front of goal to improve conversion rate of chances created.
For me we could do with an out and out winger who is capable of delivering crosses at speed as an option off the bench. It's a big ask of a wing back to be a competent fullback and winger. But given how we are setup, will not be a priority.

Surprised revan lined up at right wing back he has always struck me as more of a right sided CB. Would have expected collinge there. Maybe it was a chesterfield specific approach to firm us up.
If hall-johnson is out long term then wynter seems to be a ready made replacement and if revan is a long term option then great given that wynter seems to be in and out of the squad.

Re: Do we need reinforcements ? If so who and what position ?
Revan played very well but with his suspect hamstrings he is more suited to playing as a centre back where the requirement to bomb up and down isn't there. Dean obviously against Broadfields as Dom played right wing back while Cropps & Wynts played as centrebacks. i would expect Cropps to play there once he is up to full speed.Bee_Forever wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 10:32 Surprised revan lined up at right wing back he has always struck me as more of a right sided CB. Lets play devils advocate here , we need a new signing but have to move someone on to fit within budget (excluding Diarra & Granville) - who would we sacrifice?

Why would we want to undermine the confidence and morale of players by having this debate at this stage of the season ?

Because this is a football discussion board not the wicker man forum. We are not looking to tar and feather the unfortunate individual but it is an interesting topic.DerekRocholl wrote:Why would we want to undermine the confidence and morale of players by having this debate at this stage of the season ?
I think beard would have been the obvious candidate but with Kanu injury he is now needed as backup to Coker.
One area we are well covered is centre half. I wonder if we can justify keeping Potter as a bench player given we have good cover there. That's probably where I would cut for now

Re: Do we need reinforcements ? If so who and what position ?
An idea seems to have taken root that our strikers are particularly prone to missing chances. I really don’t think that’s true. Every team misses chances! People talk about us missing hatfuls of chances last week, for example, yet Chesterfield missed a lot more chances than us. Kabamba is top scorer in the league and both Stead and Hooper are contributing, despite the former not playing as an out-and-out striker and the latter only featuring as a sub.
For what’s it’s worth, if money were no object I’d probably go for another striker who could ‘lead the line’ in the absence of Kabamba, but overall I think the squad is looking good, with good cover in place.

I agree 100% Derek but some posters seem to think money is no object and we should just bring someone else in willy nilly. question was rhetorical rather than asking for an answer!DerekRocholl wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 10:55Why would we want to undermine the confidence and morale of players by having this debate at this stage of the season ?

Maybe people think the FA Cup prize money is, or should be used, to strengthen the squad. We as mere supporters are not privy to that information. £41000 earned by beating Curzon Ashton and another £67000 should we best Newport.jerroll wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 11:21I agree 100% Derek but some posters seem to think money is no object and we should just bring someone else in willy nilly. question was rhetorical rather than asking for an answer!DerekRocholl wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 10:55Why would we want to undermine the confidence and morale of players by having this debate at this stage of the season ?
If that money goes to strengthen the squad that’s great.
If it goes into TK’s back pocket that’s fine too considering how much he has forked out over the years.

The trouble is that while it is a discussion forum it also acts as a tar and feathering place, we don’t need to diminish the morale of players like Beard and Potter with posts like the one you have just made.Bee_Forever wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 11:07Because this is a football discussion board not the wicker man forum. Suggesting that Sam Beard is worth offloading in the same sentence as arguing he is a key back up player is quite something.

Sorry I misunderstood and didn’t realise that a question, where Diarra and Granville were excluded, asking “who should we sacrifice” was rhetorical and didn’t ask anyone to give names as an answer !jerroll wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 11:21I agree 100% Derek but some posters seem to think money is no object and we should just bring someone else in willy nilly. question was rhetorical rather than asking for an answer!DerekRocholl wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 10:55Why would we want to undermine the confidence and morale of players by having this debate at this stage of the season ?
What a load of bollocks. How about just accepting this was a shit subject to raise in this way, we all make mistakes, me more than most in this arena.
