Re: (Near) Rivals
I didn’t realise Gateshead are an ex Football league team.
Re: (Near) Rivals
They aren't, original club that played in FL folded in 1970's

Re: (Near) Rivals
I see that Southend are still struggling to complete their sale. Ron Martin remains confident though!

Re: (Near) Rivals
Chesterfield lose again and blow their chance of reaching 100 points. That's only one win in their last 7.
We might yet finish within 9 points of them.

Re: (Near) Rivals
Tonight’s result confirms that if the run of the ball had converted our dominance in both the home and away games vs Chesterfield into goals, we’d be level on points with them going into the final day.
I think any Chesterfield fan, if they are honest with themselves, will always look back at their 23/24 title and know that it could - probably should - have been Barnet who were champions.

Re: (Near) Rivals
Gateshead won by two penalties, the second was apparently very dubious. Their only goal at Maidenhead was a penalty.
Re: (Near) Rivals
It does seem a very strange way for Chesterfield to end their season - especially after their fans and management have been moaning about others' 'lack of integrity'.
Re: (Near) Rivals
In fairness, it must be quite a situation to have the league sewn up so early and still maintain the level of intensity they've had all season.
That said, I'll still be chuffed with us finishing 2nd. It will be nice to see a smaller difference in points between us, but we all know that's irrelevant. What's important now is that we face the challenge before us, and that's proving we are the 2nd best team in the division over 9 months of football and we deserve to go up with them. We are good enough. We've earned the bye to the semi final on merit. Big it up and make the most of it!

Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!
Re: (Near) Rivals
Chesterfield have been on the beach for weeks as no real challengers this season. Am sure results would have been different if they were being pushed all the way to the title.
We were 21 points behind on the day title was clinched.

Re: (Near) Rivals
The table doesn’t lie - there’s been a hair’s breadth between us this season, as broad only as the paint on the underside of the bar hit by Callum Stead’s shot at Chesterfield while it was still 0-0.
More seriously, I would be rather annoyed if I supported one of York or Wealdstone’s rivals for survival this season; they’ve each won a cheap 3 points of the beach-dwelling version of the Spireites during this run-in and that could make all the difference. Nothing they can do about it and it’s just how things have fallen, but I just know it would mightily piss me off if we were the losers in such a situation!

I believe we suffered the same when we were relegated from L2.Tuesds wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 10:52 The table doesn’t lie - there’s been a hair’s breadth between us this season, as broad only as the paint on the underside of the bar hit by Callum Stead’s shot at Chesterfield while it was still 0-0.

Coventry seemed to coast their final game.
