Just don't go
This would penalise the majority of supporters from both sides due to the behaviour of the minority It is hardly Celtic v Rangers. Derby games stir passions and excitement. This can be done without violence.

All football fans were tarred with the same brush by prejudiced politicians in the 80s. I remember having to watch football through fences until crowd safety became a concern after Hillsborough.

Statement from the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors at Wealdstone Football Club unequivocally condemn the actions of the individual who invaded the pitch during our National League fixture at Barnet FC yesterday, following our equalising goal and assaulted a match day steward. Such behaviour is totally unacceptable and goes against the values that our club stands for.

We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all participants, spectators and attendees at our games, which is why we will be working closely with Barnet Football Club and the Metropolitan Police to identify and take appropriate action against any supporters who entered the pitch and those directly involved in this incident. All culprits identified will face the full consequences of their actions.

It is with deep regret that the reprehensible behaviour of a few has overshadowed what was a moment of celebration for our team and the vast majority of our supporters, who behaved impeccably and adhered to the ground regulations throughout the match. We are very disappointed that the actions of these few individuals have cast a shadow over our club and our dedicated fans.

The club wishes to express its sincere apologies to the match day steward affected by this incident, and we will ensure they receive our full support. We also want to thank the majority of our fans who continue to show their passionate support in a respectful and responsible manner.

Wealdstone Football Club will not tolerate any form of misconduct that jeopardises the safety and enjoyment of football. We are dedicated to maintaining a family-friendly and safe environment for all fans and participants, reinforcing the positive and respectful image of our club and its supporters.

We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of all our fans and the wider community as we address this matter with the seriousness it warrants.

I appreciate my comment about playing behind closed doors is extreme. Making it home fans only would be another idea but away fans would doubtless get in the home end anyway. It won't happen anyway but why should we have our ground smashed up by them? There has to be a better system than the one currently in place. How could their fans have got flares in in the first place? Plus whatever else they brought in to cause damage?

As for telling me not to go, my daughters and I haven't been to the last 2 away matches because the one we did go to was a horrible experience for us which we don't want to repeat. As for home matches, yes we will still go but will do as we did yesterday and leave promptly.

If we did play them at Wembley, yes we'd go because it was Wembley and there would be a decent police presence. But playing them would tarnish the event for my family. That's just our opinion.

Wealdstone make it season ticket holders only when they travel to us. You go down that route it could end same for us which would be rubbish.

There's not a lot you can do to stop it, apart from identifying, prosecuting and banning those caught on CCTV. We covered all this the last time it happened, suggesting stewards and police are in bar66/toilet areas, watching their every move. This obviously didn't happen, as they've done it again. Maybe just close the bar next time and put portaloos outside in the area behind. It's pretty difficult to damage those single person monstrosities.

More presence at pitch-side would be the first suggestion. If it's a fixture with potential to flare up in the away end, simply have more bodies in hi-vis stationed at pitch level. It may look heavy-handed, but it's also a deterrent. We have a low perimeter around the pitch, so it's a vulnerable point if someone is feeling brave to have a go like yesterday. Potential fines for crowd trouble vs the cost of extra bodies around the pitch? Even though it was Wealdstone's fans causing the problems, the negative press surrounding a fixture at our stadium is also harmful. We're trying to grow our fanbase by reaching out to the next generation, not scare them off. Prevention is better than cure. Having said that, if their goal hadn't gone in, this story probably wouldn't have happened.

When all is said and done, people should know the difference between right and wrong. Throwing flares, running onto the pitch in that manner, and causing damage to the facilities under the stand are plainly wrong. No excuses. Prosecute and move on. But could we prepare our resources for the same fixture better? Maybe. Will we have the same fixture next season? Hopefully not...

No difference to their stadium them! A simple police presence in bar 66 would have helped, don’t think lessons have been learnt from last season. Maybe I’m wearing my rose tinted spectacles, but really can’t see any Barnet supporter acting like some of their lot. Really weird nasty club.

i think you are right. i cannot imagine the damage to be caused by their loyal support. More likely opportunists with allegiances to other clubs out for a spot vandalism. Who knows?

i wonder whether there would have been more trouble of a different sort had they not have equalised.

Also it would make sense for away supporters to use the blocks nearer the Hive stand rather than legends, keeps more of a distance between them and our fans.
