Footballers cannot bet on football matches, regardless of which league or competition. They surely should all know that.
Losing Pritchard is terrible news for us. All self inflicted.

I was banned from betting in Step 3, Step 4 and Step 5. For a pro player to bet is just craziness unless they have an addiction where the FA really need to do more to help.

FFS - as someone said above how does this even come out, surely the betting firms don't have time to provide evidence for such a small case.

It only works out to 1 bet every 3 weeks so he's hardly addicted or anything but rules are rules.

Hope Gorman is back asap as you'd take him & Hartigan in the middle but Pritch's best game recently was when all 3 played & he was further forward for once.

This is a big setback for us and could be terminal for his career at his age.

Is he innocent until proven guilty?
In other words can he play for us on Saturday?

I hope he wasn't betting on us, it puts his penalty misses into question big-time

Players are told time and time again that they can't bet on ANYTHING involving football. This is literally drilled into them.

If he is found guilty then unfortunately he deserves anything that is coming his way from the FA.
There is a big but... you can barely watch football on commercial channels without betting being thrust in your face. Bet now, easy, in play, cash in - would you say no to Ray Winstone? Click a button sign up.

Add to this in your face advertising across grounds, shirts, tournament sponsors.

Do lower league players get enough guidance / support to not gamble, or is it just a cursory tickbox exercise?

It needs to be treated the way tobbacco advertising was not so long ago i.e. no longer visible - but football authorities / governing bodies won't do this because of the lucrative contracts making lots of money.

The odd bet here or there can easily escalate

Very silly thing to be doing - there can be no claim of ignorance - especially with the Ivan Toney incident recently.

He presumably won't get his hearing before Saturday so he'll be able to play for us then. It's the 15 remaining NL matches I'm more bothered about.
We currently have 2 potential opportunities to play at Wembley in May. I presume he's never played at Wembley. How's he going to feel if he misses out on that?

case may not even be heard until after the season , Ivan Toney's was charged in dec 22 & ban didn't start until may 23 and that was a lot higher profile than a National league player.

Not necessarily, you cannot have a bet on the FA Cup final if you played in the competition that season for example.
Cheers.

Not sure I really understand the logic behind that rule. Seems a bit overzealous. Most FA cup players in a season will have zero inside info/influence on the two finalists for example.

He's pleaded guilty.

Earlier this season, a player at Stratford Town FC was also guilty of betting offences. Although his offences were less than Ivan Toney's, he has been banned from all football for 12 years.

Stratford Town defender Kynan Isaac has been banned for 10 years for his part in spot-fixing during an FA Cup tie. The 29-year-old played for the Southern League club in a 5-1 defeat by Shrewsbury Town in November 2021. It was later alleged he was deliberately booked as part of a betting scheme with friends.

That was match fixing not betting on results of games!

I did wonder that but prefer to err on the side of caution!

Yeah same I have no sympathy for him
