Bees v Dorking 23rd March

Post: # 369706Post hoppy »

Our Promotions team could do worse than to have a look at what Wealdstone are doing for their game against Kidderminster on 23rd March. On this day there are no Premiership or Championship matches and England are playing Brazil at Wembley in the evening.
Wealdstone are doing reduced prices for all who book online, fans of Premiership and Championship teams get Concession prices as do fans going to the England match.
A great promotion from Wealdstone. Can we do something similar? There is the potential for a huge attendance for our game against Dorking.

We did do a concessionary price to Prem ST holders for a Prem free match day last season but it wasn't very well publicised. It would be a good idea to repeat it but give it better notice this time.

Why would any floating fan want to go to Wealdstone's horrible ground when they could come to The Hive and watch Barnet?!!!

If a floating fan went to Wealdstone they very likely would be floating.

I beat this drum about our international break fixtures in November but we did nothing & it was the same situation (in fact England weren’t even the same day).

It’s Non-League on 23rd March too.

Should offer discounts to any England fans with tickets too, it’s perfect timing to come to our game before heading to Wembley for the 7pm KO (that sold out months ago).

Also, getting on the Jubilee line and going a few stops down to Wembley plark is a doddle.

It’s barely even forward planning now with the game 4 weeks away, a lot of people make plans way in advance nowadays.

With a great opportunity to attract lapsed fans/new fans/England-going fans wouldn’t it be great to make this a ‘Bring Barnet Back’ themed day at The Hive? Adult tickets could be at the offer price of £19.07 (1907 being the year we first moved to Underhill, obvs). The Supporters Association could be given a stall to encourage people to sign up to the email list, in exchange for a free something… or ticket discount, club shop discount etc? We could have a history stall, where one of the excellent historians of the club could be set up with photos/memorabilia from our history in Barnet.

Not only could a promotion like this raise awareness of this vital issue amongst new/occasional fans, but it could also help encourage already-committed fans to take action in support of the back-to-Barnet effort, while also helping foster enthusiasm and unity around the club at a crucial time for the team on the pitch and for the club off it.

I don't see that we'd tempt many lapsed / new / England fans by charging £19.07. Full price is £22, so not much of a saving. What about concessions, they already pay less than £19.07?

Hate to say it but Wealdstone's offer seems far more appealing.

We can all make suggestions as to exactly what prices we could/should offer (& concessions would obviously be less!), but my point is that we should be doing offers/promotions and also that themed promotions with a purpose tend to be more successful, and moreover can help promote other priorities in addition to simply attracting more customers on a one-off basis. Make it £9.07, make it £11 (11 years away from Underhill), make it 1p less than Wealdstone… whatever, it would be nice if we did something. Currently our ‘offer’ is £22, with no alternatives and no choice. Even £19.07, too high but still a 13% reduction, would be something we could promote!

Dagenham are of a small handful of clubs with similarly small attendances to ours, and they seem to be doing all sorts of very public things about it, for example their recent ‘Diversity Day’ which tied in discounted ticket prices with a diversity-themed family fun day, with stalls, activities for the kids etc. Their attendance for an unpromising fixture vs Halifax was over 2,700, compared to the 1,300 at both of the previous two home leeague fixtures, vs Oxford City and Chesterfield. Indeed they hadn’t had any more than 1,600 for any game since the opening day, vs Southend and their travelling hordes.

The last time we announced a family fun day promotion for a league game (vs Bromley, in April last year) we simply didn’t put anything on on the day, and the club never even acknowledged it! We just… didn’t do it!

The day does appear primed for an offering of some kind.

As I've stressed a thousand times, £22 is far too high as an entry level ticket price for The Hive (at this level). So a nice £10-15 offer for the day would be a great touch.
