Gateshead Kicked Out
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
Ultimately it was the EFL who were not satisfied. The NL lobbied on Gateshead's behalf. But still, probably a lot of information and detail we are not party to. Best left for those concerned to discuss.
Either way, I wish Gateshead and their fans well, because as a team on the pitch they've proved themselves to be a good side on merit. I hope they can sort this mess out and give themselves the freedom to progress on footballing merit alone in future seasons.
Back in the mid-90's, Stevenage were refused promotion and back then to us, the rules seemed unfair. But credit where it's due, they sorted it out and came again.
As for now, we've got to put all this noise to one side and focus on whoever our opponent is next Saturday. Whoever that is will be facing face a massive home crowd, and our goal us very simple... get to Wembley!

Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
Who would we prefer now ? Halifax or Solihull?
Sounds strange but even though we beat Halifax fairly comfortably the other week I doubt it would be like that for a play off game so think would rather Solihull.

Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
If Gateshead can't be promoted shouldn't they be kick out the league? I'm sure I read somewhere of a team who finished top but we're demoted two divisions as their ground wasn't fit for the league above.

I'm hoping to continue encouragement of Halifax's Goldenletchbee94 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2024, 17:02 Who would we prefer now ? Halifax or Solihull?

Having watched the Cup semi-final penalties I just hope that whoever we play it gets decided in 90 or 120 minutes.

As a neutral, I might pop along next season! That will be a rivalry that will run and run now….northantsbee wrote:I'm sure Aldershot will give Gateshead a warm welcome next season!

Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
Apparently the top brass at Bromley are "ambivalent" to say the least about promotion to the EFL because it would cost them a shed load of money replacing their illegal in the EFL plastic pitch....
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
Also maybe someone's mentioned to them that L2 clubs get a lot more away supporters than the NL clubs do. They'd have to spend money on away facilities.TottenhamBee wrote: ↑21 Apr 2024, 19:14 Apparently the top brass at Bromley are "ambivalent" to say the least about promotion to the EFL because it would cost them a shed load of money replacing their illegal in the EFL plastic pitch....
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
Always thought it was the 21st, maybe that was the Battle of Barnet ?!
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
I mean, that was us the first time we got relegated back to the conference, Underhill no longer met EFL ground standards, so no.
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
I believe Underhill never met league standards and they changed the rules to accommodate us. I think it also used to be the case that to be in the NL/conference the ground had to meet league standards, that has clearly changed given the standard of some dumps...
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
I thought the rules were that a club promoted from NL to L2 had 3 seasons to get their ground up to EFL standards or they'd lose their place. Didn't Accrington bolt a row of seats on somewhere just so they'd reach the minimum number?
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
That's how it is now I think. Before I think NL clubs had to be L2 ready but clubs weren't prepared to / couldn't afford to do the necessary upgrades, potentially not needed if not promoted.
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
Can we have some links to this Bromley ambivalence?
Re: Gateshead Kicked Out
I posted this in the hope that someone would remember the club this happened to. In effect Gateshead are preventing other clubs from gaining promotion, as their place in the playoffs has been taken up by a club that is banned from being in the EFL. There's a fair chance that Gateshead will be top 7 next year and the same thing happening thus taking the playoffs down to 5 clubs.
