Re: Transfers 2024/25
My opinion is that O'Donkor wouldn't be the worst of signings to fall back on if he was available, but I would rather splash a bit of cash and bring in a striker with a bit of pedigree to take some of the load off Kabamba. Sharing the load over a long season is vital. I've said it before, we need a big target man, who holds the ball up and brings others into play. Such a player is vital during spells when we are under pressure.becbee wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 09:29Transfer deadline day signing but only managed 1 league appearance.Norfolkbee wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 09:10But Potter moved into the EFL.jerroll wrote: ↑23 Jul 2024, 17:30i'd imagine they would want a lg2 loan at least for him but if it hasn't happened by deadline day why not although a possible lesson is there from Finley Potter's 2nd loan spell which never hit the heights of his first.Norfolkbee wrote: ↑23 Jul 2024, 17:05 What's the chance of getting O'Donkor back for all or part of the season? Aderoju has signed for Boston United on loan until the end of March. I was right in thinking they might be prepared to loan him out, but sadly not correct that it might be to us. We need more striker options and he seemed to fit the bill perfectly, but hopefully the management team are working on other possibilities.Tuesds wrote: ↑12 Jun 2024, 18:20 While we’re throwing one or two names around, I wonder if we might fancy a long loan for Peterborough prospect Pemi Aderoju. Young striker who signed from Southern League Div 1 Biggleswade FC during last season, then got rave reviews for his Posh u21 performances and made a few sub appearances in League 1 for the 1st team. Some are tipping him to break through for Posh this year, but if they’re thinking he might need some more 1st team experience at a professional level, you’d think we might be well placed to provide it.
Like O’Donkor, he’s very physically strong and he’s also very quick. Prolific at Step 4 before Posh snapped him up. As he’s still making his way, he may be easier to keep happy with the odd start and regular 20-30 minute sub appearances, which may be all we can offer initially if Kabamba stays fit.

I'd like to think that our performances over the past two seasons, coupled with Deano's obvious passion and enthusiasm, would be enough to attract a top-rate striker to the club, providing TK is genuinely willing to open his wallet.Tuesds wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 11:38Aderoju has signed for Boston United on loan until the end of March. The ins and outs since Solihull is a confirmation that we are seriously targeting promotion this year. If Dean thinks we need an additional striker and one becomes available, I'm sure TK will sign off the expenditure.Norfolkbee wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 12:04I'd like to think that our performances over the past two seasons, coupled with Deano's obvious passion and enthusiasm, would be enough to attract a top-rate striker to the club, providing TK is genuinely willing to open his wallet.Tuesds wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 11:38Aderoju has signed for Boston United on loan until the end of March. Re: Transfers 2024/25
We’ve got a top-rate striker in Nicke Kabamba. What we need is decent cover for him, and/or an alternative who offers something different. O’Donkor would be great, but if I was Oxford Utd I wouldn’t send him back down to the National League again from the Championship unless I’d given up on him completely, and with his long-term contract and the number of League 1 appearances he has, I don’t think they have.

I would go as far as to say we need a "top-rate" alternative who offers something different. Of course, it would be a real bonus if he could operate alongside Nicke.Tuesds wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 13:00 We’ve got a top-rate striker in Nicke Kabamba. The "top rate" alternative likely won't want to be on a NL bench waiting for his chances.Norfolkbee wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 13:10I would go as far as to say we need a "top-rate" alternative who offers something different. Browne and Stead both are looking good.
If one of the three gets badly injured / loses form then it will be different but as things stand, I don't see that another striker is a priority. I'd say wait and see whether we get offered a decent loan, otherwise start the season with what we've got.
Re: Transfers 2024/25
Aside from the fact that Stead and Browne are ‘forwards’ but not strikers/no.9s, we’ve got 7 subs and can make 5. With Stead/Browne/Kabamba potentially all starters, when we get to the 60-70 minute mark and need a sub to get a goal or for some fresh legs up front or to protect one of those from injury etc., with the squad as it is Brennan’s going to turn around and see 4 centre halves, a wing back, a midfielder and a goalie!becbee wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 13:19The "top rate" alternative likely won't want to be on a NL bench waiting for his chances.Norfolkbee wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024, 13:10I would go as far as to say we need a "top-rate" alternative who offers something different. Re: Transfers 2024/25
Agree with Tuesds, we do need another out and out number 9. Doesnt need to be 'top rate', dont think theres such a thing at this level. Kabamba wasnt top rate when he signed but we've made him a top player for the level, someone of a similar background would suffice, but I believe we lack real pace in our frontline.
Re: Transfers 2024/25
Think unless someone up to DB’s standard comes along he’ll start the season with happily with stead, Browne and Nicke, it’s more than we’ve had the previous 2 years
In terms of the offers I really hope it’s just DC and Idris as we expected and that there’s nothing which could potentially unsettle a Nicke, stead etc
I also would rather it was resolved before the season kicks off rather than carry players who don’t want to be with us.
Exciting times and so rare to be at the beginning of July and having largely completed our business for the summer.

Re: Transfers 2024/25
Big Jon is not and never has been a target man type
of forward.
He needs that type of player, playing close to him.
Beside that, his ability was always based on power and pace and it’s my understanding, that he is not as quick as he used to be.
Having said all that, what a player he was for us.
