DSM wrote: 04 Jul 2024, 10:19 I would imagine there is at least the £3m again in add-ons relating to appearances, England 21 caps, staying up etc. Also I’d guess he has a 20-25% sell on of which 50% will come to us. This is where there could be big money coming if RE succeeds at Southampton
It would be uncommon for Barnet to get 50% of any further transfer fees, but you would assume that there are a healthy amount of add-ons, which we would be entitled to half of.
My understanding is we would be entitled to 50% of any add ons that Peterborough have, with their sale of the player. So if Peterborough have a 20% sell on clause for Edwards and he goes from Southampton to Real Madrid for £50 million , we would get 50% of their £10 million.
This is exactly how it works according to DMac on his podcast
I see what you mean - perhaps that is the case, now I think about it. Because otherwise Peterborough could, theoretically, accept a larger sell-on percentage and less cash, to reduce the amount that Barnet receive. This would guarantee that doesn't happen, so may be more likely than I initially thought.

I'd be interested to listen to the episode of DM's podcast where he discusses this.

Maidenhead are getting a hefty amount of £40 million from the sale of Max Kilman, wonder if they'll see the benefits on the pitch.

A great story and shows the benefit of developing young talent and putting those clauses into future deals. They'll maybe sign a few but surely better off developing the ground and making their stadium a money maker going forward should planning permission allow.

It's £4m - 10% sell on

I think they’re planning to move ground, which for a number of reasons is a great pity.

The newly elected council have torpedoed the ground move, having been elected on an anti development ticket. Looks more likely now that some extra seating is going in at York Road.

Where are they going to put them? Are they planning on extending the main stand so it runs the whole side?

Main stand to be extended to cover most of the terracing to the left. Also seats in front of the 5-a-side cage in the far corner

Barnet will eventually pick up £1.5million (probably in dribs and drabs), plus a few thousand when various milestones are reached. Posh will come out of this as big winners if Ronnie is a huge success at Saints and earns a move to a really big club at home or abroad, money Barnet will see nothing of.
Usually we get 50% of any future earnings Peterborough get (I think their chairman even confirmed as such in his podcast).
I didn't think a previous club to get a percentage of a future sell-on. The situation could go on and on if a player keeps moving around.
We get 50% of everything Posh get.

If the initial fee is £3M then we get £1.5M immediately.
They are also likely to be receiving an amount over a longer period.
Then DMAC will have added clauses triggered by league appearances, international appearances, Southampton avoiding relegation from Premier League, and of course a % of whatever he is sold for next.

Every time Posh get paid, we get 50% of what they get paid.

If Ronnie goes to Real Madrid for £20M in 3 years time then we get £10M
If he makes his senior England debut then Posh will get something for that and we will get half.
Absolutely everything Posh get, we get half, (and DMAC loves a clause).

£3M will just be the tip of the iceberg.
I'm not sure this is quite correct. I believe we'll get 50% of all the add-ons as well as the initial fee, but I don't think this extends to a percentage of any future sales. My understanding is that we will get a small amount from any future moves, but that is standardised 'training and development compensation', rather than something directly linked to the deal we did with Peterborough.
Sorry Jim, having listened to the DMac pod it seems you are correct here - I had no idea that this was the case, but it's definitely pleasing from a Barnet point of view!

EDIT: But, as PBBee points out below, it would be 50% of the sell-on clause, not the the whole transfer, if Edwards moves on.

As above we should get 50% of anything Peterborough get in the future but it's not correct that if Southampton sell him for £20m we would get £10m! We get 50% of whatever Peterborough get (so if they have a 20% sell on then they get £4m & we'd get £2m of that!).

They were due £8 million as there well on percentage was 20%, but for the sale to go through all three clubs came to agreement of 10%. Shame for them but suppose 10% of £40 million is better than 20% of nothing.

Do clubs have to pay capital gains tax, or other tax, on these sales/sell on fees?

Corporation tax on profit. They can reduce profit by spending the income.
