Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
Apologies if this has already been discussed, but has any contact been made with the Chipping Barnet election candidates, on their views, on our proposed return to the ward? Now would be the time, to question their views and gain commitments before the vote next month.

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
I noticed this, regarding Labour's manifesto, on the Guardian website:
"[Labour will] reform the planning system to make it easier to get permission to build, and to devolve powers over transport, skills, housing and planning to local mayors."
That sounds like something that could work in our favour, assuming that Labour win the general election. Their candidate for Chipping Barnet - Dan Tomlinson - looks to be polling significantly ahead with 51.78% of the vote, according to this website:
https://pollingreport.uk/seats/E14000636
It does feel like the potential combination of a Labour government, mayor, council and local MP could offer us the best possible chance of getting planning permission - especially with their current pro-building agenda.

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
quite ironic seeing as it was Labour that prevented our move to Copthall!

I’ve contacted Dan through his website, and would urge others to also do so.thebeekeeper wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 08:53 I noticed this, regarding Labour's manifesto, on the Guardian website:

Thanks for getting in touch. I would very much like to see Barnet FC return to Barnet, and I am waiting with interest for more detail on the announced plans. I am expecting though that the proposals will not be compliant with the local and national planning policies to preserve and enhance the green belt - my understanding is that the land proposed for the development is green belt land. I'd also want to see a carefully thought through travel and access plan before coming to a view.
But if elected as our MP, I'll certainly try my best to work with the council and partners to see if we can bring Barnet home - it's got to be possible!
Best wishes,
Dan

Interesting response - I'm certainly buoyed by the overall tone, but simultaneously slightly worried by the green belt comment.11bee717 wrote: ↑18 Jun 2024, 12:15Response attached:11bee717 wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 12:31I’ve contacted Dan through his website, and would urge others to also do so.thebeekeeper wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 08:53 I noticed this, regarding Labour's manifesto, on the Guardian website:

I'll be fascinated to find out how the club / WSP plan to combat that issue.
I suppose Dan has to cover his bases until the election / he's seen some concrete plans, so it's probably not worth reading too much into.

If Dan said,” sod the regulations we’ll make it happen”, you know what his Tory opponent will have all over their leaflets.

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
It would be nice if Labour could for once back the plans. Whether it is the council or the new MP talking, the stadium only ever gets written off.
Reconsidering my vote unless they change their tune.

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
We should be pressing all the candidates on their views. Our plan to build, mimics the long term strategic plan that has been put forward by Barnet Council to build a sports centre and cafe on the green belt in the same location as us. I bet none of the candidates are aware of this, as it doesn't interest them. If we put pressure on the candidates to make them aware of the long term proposals that have been put forward by Barnet Council, we might get a better response than the one currently given by Labour. Unfortunately under the new boundary changes I no longer am in Chipping Barnet but I'd be interested to know from our own data how many resident fans are in the ward and eligible to vote.
Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
It was a shame that I only found out about the High Barnet hustings after it was too late to submit a question.
Would it be of use for Bring Back Barnet to send a question to all of the candidates individually to ask them what their standpoint on the issue is?
Is it best to wait and work with what we get?
It it all irrelevant as the polls indication the Barnet is turning red so to speak.
At the hustings the only candidate who mentioned Barnet was the chap from Reform - though he sounded like he still thought we were resident in Barnet.

We've been in touch with all the candidates and interviewed 4/5 of the main parties about their views. Chasing the 5th today.
Will publish in the newsletter on Sunday and will pop a link here so people can read their thoughts.

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
Yes but what percentage of the local Barnet electorate are actual BFC supporters? There are far more vote gaining issues for local candidates to put their efforts into.
I speak as an Enfield voter who has no interest whatsoever in what my local candidates want for Enfield Town FC.

Re: Bring Barnet Back - campaign thread
That might be true, but a good number of non-Barnet supporters will be interested in the potential benefits of the stadium to the local community - more money going into the high street, sporting facilities for youngsters to use, the drop-off zone to alleviate traffic issues etc.becbee wrote: ↑26 Jun 2024, 13:50 Yes but what percentage of the local Barnet electorate are actual BFC supporters?
